RE: what is a god?
Per my loose understanding, a God is an anthropomorphic representation of The Heirophany. In the Western tradition, primarily Judeo-Christian-Islamic, God is represented by five characteristics, presented esoterically in the shape of a star: Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent, Omnipowerful, and Omnibenevolent.

This idea goes so far back, that most Westerners aren't aware of why a Pentagram is offensive to Christianity: It represents removing the five powers of God. And, not that your average Christian is the best expert on their own book, but a lot of the problems contemporary Christianity has with Animism, Deism, and even the roles of Men and Women fly in the face of their own definition of God.

Personally, my own definition of God is: "An entity defying comprehension thought to exist and be perceived only through Jung's Oceanic Feeling. Directed either intelligently or by pure logic toward order out of chaos -- Life over death, being over null."

A lot of effort has been put forth to personify the Christian God as Zeus, or the recovering megalomaniac from the Old Testament. It's unfortunate how much of the idea of God is lost in pettiness, prejudice, and back-water thinkin'.

That's some good knowing stuff you got going on there!

Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken."

God is a half eaten block of 3 month out-of-date creme cheese inside my refrigerator, behind the orange juice and right next to the strawberry jam; his name is Bob.
