How DOES the GOP do it? (part II)

How DOES the GOP do it? (part II)
Can someone help me out here?

Does the GOP hate Obama because he's projecting weakness, he won't stand up to anyone, he's wearing "mom jeans" (nice, and the GOP has no idea why people say they're sexist) and dictators know they can take advantage of him?

Or does the GOP hate Obama because he's an iron-fisted tyrant who lawlessly rules by executive fiat and is getting ready to confiscate all our guns and send us all to FEMA camps?

Sadly, I think this is what passes for political discourse these days. Bush was subject to similar sophomoric criticism. I am sure that more meaningful political debate occurs, but we have to search for it knowing that the media will give us the shit since it is in ratings competition with Entertainment Tonight and TMZ.

I actually like the tenor of Rand Paul's recent article criticising Republicans for invoking Reagan during the Ukraine conversation:

Quote: Regarding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, for example, there is little difference among most Republicans on what to do. All of us believe we should stand up to Putin's aggression. Virtually no one believes we should intervene militarily.

So we are then faced with a finite menu of diplomatic measures to isolate Russia, on most of which we all agree, such as sanctions and increased economic pressure.

Yet, some politicians have used this time to beat their chest. What we don't need right now is politicians who have never seen war talking tough for the sake of their political careers.

Both.

For their crowd, they don't have to be consistent.

They hate Obama for a lot of reasons. Only one of them really has to do with the man, himself.

1. He's an educated and successful black male. He doesn't fit the white racist stereotype of what a black male is supposed to be. Say what you want about the 'race card'. It's plenty damn true.
2. His election has largely closed the door on the modern Republican party in particular and conservatism in general. They blame Obama for this, but his ascendancy is an effect of the death of American conservatism, in terms of their ability to dictate the political narrative in this country.
3. One primary piece of that narrative was the idea that conservatives were the 'silent' majority. Some poor saps still believe it. Obama being re-elected by a comfortable margin shattered that illusion for everyone with half a brain in their head.
4. He represents the rising Millennial generation (a generation which, in my opinion, doesn't get nearly as much credit as it deserves), and it's a generation which has overwhelmingly rejected all of the things conservative fossils hold so dear. They are increasingly non-religious, mistrustful of patriotism, and much more comfortable with people who are not like they are.

Honestly, it's not really about the politics. Obama is a centrist who has been, on occasion, dragged kicking and screaming into backing progressive goals. He's nowhere near the liberal he should be, and not within shouting distance of being the marxist socialist communist fascist conservatives love to think he is. He has, in fact, backed a lot of the corporatist policies Republicans love.

No, I wasn't copying anyone, I swear, but no surprise that Stewart is again roasting the GOP for its flip flops. This has become a theme since the days that Kerry was a radical liberal ideological indecisive, flip-flopper who can't take a stand on anything.

Stewart has come a long way since his days of centrism, culminating in his Rally to Restore Sanity. He wants to be a centrist so bad he can taste it. It's hard to do when one political party has lost its mind.

They're the Know Nothing Party of the 21st century. They're mad as hell but they can't articulate why and don't seem to want to put the effort into finding out.
