Can anyone relate?

My point very simply is that love is something that must be freely given and freely received. Since the very nature of love requires this choice, it can be rejected or accepted. This applies to any relationship.

Hahaha.

This is sad. Speaking as a cured former Christian this is simply not an accurate analogy in the least.

The bible uses a very old technique to bind the victim to it. It teaches it's followers that they are weak, that they are sinners, that they are undeserving of god's grace.

That eternal torment in hell, a place that god himself created, is something we do to ourselves, even though he set up a binary choice to obey him and go to heaven or suffer there forever.

God is the classic abuser. Any psychiatrist can tell you how abusers break down their victims, make them feel like they are the reason the abuse happens, that they are worthless and undeserving of the magnanimity of the abuser. That only the abuser could ever care about the victim.

It's classic Stockholm Syndrome.

Man is actually the abuser, concocting a god as his scapegoat. Perhaps that is all religion (and all religions) ever really was, is and ever will be.

Discipulus, the next time you have the hots for someone, just say it straight (and preferably in private). Beating around the bush and making rape allegories (usually) doesn't do the trick.. Tongue
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Lol!! Big Grin

He doesn't like me "like that." He is concerned I've made a grave error in "turning my back" on God. As a former Christian, I understand his piety for lack of a better word.
As much as I try to see where it comes from, it's one of the tenets of Christianity, perhaps religion in general, that irks me. Worried about the after life and "saving souls," etc.

Coming to where I'm at now and feeling comfortable with an atheistic stance, I don't understand why a person's belief or disbelief in a god, determine "my" eternity? If a god exists, why would he wish to make "finding" him so hard?

And I don't want to hear a pantheistic reply..."well, we can see god in the universe, with a capital U."

I've heard it all as we all have. If a god is real, why does he hide?
