Others have already provided the links, so all I will add is to point out that the way the story is told implies that there was some way for NASA's engineers to determine that there was a day "missing" from some time in the distant past. Now... how exactly would they have figured that out?

It's one of the sillier urban legends and only has any traction at all because it supposedly confirms something that people want to be true. Much the same way that someone seems to stumble over the location of Noah's ark every few years or the virgin Mary makes her Caucasian face appear on a piece of toast from time to time.

Did you think about it at all? I am stupefied as to how people can take this seriously. Believing in half the crap that the bible says in one thing but believing NASA knows about some event where the entire earth stopped? What goes through your mind when someone tells you that? If he applied the force evenly to every human at once in such a way that everything lived, then how come the soldier normal movement is unimpeded? And why is there no record of this from china or india?

I was thinking of the earth stopping in its orbit, which if iirc, wouldve had to happen for the judges account to be accurate. Even if your right though, you still get sent flying.

Every molecule recieves the same degree of force in the same direction (relative to the rotational axis, of course) such that relative motion is unchanged.

God sure went through a lot of trouble to stop the Earth's rotation. Why didn't he just rain down some fire and brimstone to end the battle more quickly?

Well considering deceleration like that would take hours if not days during which the sun would move notably, not mentioning the reacceleration afterwards. We also lack records from any other developed civilization at the time, which depended on the sun for their livelihood.
