Every molecule recieves the same degree of force in the same direction (relative to the rotational axis, of course) such that relative motion is unchanged. Well considering deceleration like that would take hours if not days during which the sun would move notably, not mentioning the reacceleration afterwards. We also lack records from any other developed civilization at the time, which depended on the sun for their livelihood.
