Evidence In Exchange
(June 12, 2014 at 1:22 am)Eye of God Wrote: For Faith?!?!??????

That makes no sense.

Quote:1.
complete trust or confidence in someone or something.
"this restores one's faith in politicians"
synonyms: trust, belief, confidence, conviction; optimism, hopefulness, hope
"he justified his boss's faith in him"
antonyms: mistrust

It does if you go with Plato's definition of knowledge as justified true belief.

http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/knowledge-analysis/

Put another way, you are making a knowledge claim about that which you cannot possibly have knowledge. I'd love to go into greater detail, but as I am not in the habit of starting philosophical dialogues with cement retaining walls, that will do for now.

(June 12, 2014 at 1:22 am)Eye of God Wrote: You just can't seem to get your small minds around the fact that if there was all this evidence you wouldn't need faith. That's the whole point- one must have faith.

As you cannot seem to wrap your mind around the notion that every benefit of modern society, including medium you recorded this post on is due to those who put their faith in x,y,z, in a box, and used empirical methodology to explore outside of that box.

(June 12, 2014 at 1:22 am)Eye of God Wrote: The whole idea of believing in something comes from the understanding that there are some things that cannot always be explained.

"Cannot always be explained."

Let's think about this. In the span of 30-50 generations, "some things can never be explained" became "some things may never be explained" to "some things cannot always be explained."

In the span of one generation, my grandfather went from being a passenger in the first commercially available automobile, to commercial air transportation, to aeronautical transportation becoming commonplace, to the internet and all of man's knowledge being accessible through pocket-sized blocks with video screens.

Posthumously, I am composing this message on a pocket block with roughly 2/3 the video resolution and almost 3 times the processing power of the highest end portable computer available when the internet became commonplace.

(June 12, 2014 at 1:22 am)Eye of God Wrote: You cannot tell the all powerful creator of the universe that you'll give him your faith if he can first produce evidence. The first negates the need for the latter.

Quite the contrary. We humans, dust mites that we are, have managed to send a man to the moon, with 100,000 times less the computer processing power each of us stuffs in a pocket daily, for mundane purposes such as video phone calls to family on the other side of the planet, and keeping up with the daily musings of our average of our 200 social media friends.

(June 12, 2014 at 1:22 am)Eye of God Wrote: So stop trying to reason you way out of hell

What's hell, again? You believe that a being so advanced that it could wish humanity into existence, in it's image, with the same sort of inquisitive, mind, and then damn each and every one of us to eternal torture and suffering for a lack of JtB in a story that happened 2,000 years ago, of which we have only a contradictory narrative claim explanations?

You think you, as a flawed afterthought of creation, are privy to pass judgement on and decree God's will over us? With what cause? You presume to know God's will?

(June 12, 2014 at 1:22 am)Eye of God Wrote: and just accept Jesus as your Savior and your God. -

If Jesus could see you right now, and it wasn't already, his hair would curl.

(June 12, 2014 at 1:22 am)Eye of God Wrote: Why let your silly pride and your ridiculous ideas keep you in utter torment for all eternity?!

If it is just to judge a finite being with infinite consequences, you will be the first to be judged.

(June 12, 2014 at 1:22 am)Eye of God Wrote: Your lives are meaningless without Christ.

On the contrary. Christ is a reflection of the utmost goodness possible within these mortal shells. Christ is an archetype of what we could be, if we set down our weapons and petty differences before Him.

As Buddha was. As every messianic figure before Him was. Christ is naught but the culturally relevant sacrifice of the ego to the capacity toward which we all have something relevant to contribute.

Christ is the eternal martyr archetype all good people strive toward. But he fell short, as secular people don't buy into his bullshit.

Christ is an ideal, toward which to strive for.

(June 12, 2014 at 1:22 am)Eye of God Wrote: Say this prayer and BE SAVED for all time!!!
"Lord Jesus Christ, I accept you into my heart. Take away my sin and take control of my life. From this day forward I will live to serve you."

Let Jesus come inside you and make you into the beautiful being you were meant to be.
The Holy Spirit will live inside you and guide you your whole life. How fantastic is that?!!?

Respectfully, you have no idea what that actually means.

Christ did not merely sacrifice himself in the way you think he did.

(June 12, 2014 at 1:22 am)Eye of God Wrote: AMEN :D Get INSPIRED and accept the hand of Christ. It's waiting for you!

Evidence shmevidence. Ask him into your heart and find out how incredible it is to have the one and only living God as your life long best friend.

Child: I don't want to go to the doctor.
Parent: But it's for your own good. You have to have faith in me.
Child: But I don't want to go!
Parent: Then I guess I have no choice but to put your hands on this lit stove burner until you believe me and accept what I say.

Haven't had to use this one for ages.

Op.

Also, "turn to jesus or burn in hell" is not faith, it's logic. Very BAD logic but logic none the less. Like a rapist telling a victim that if she / he only loves him / her (let's be inclusive) then he won't kill her afterward.
"Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken."

That makes no sense.

No, you're right. It doesn't.

Evidence in exchange for belief; now, that's more like it. You need to demonstrate that there's even a “there“ there, before we can even think of discussing what its properties might be.

Why did you steal my car?

I just did. Was there something meant to happen?

I already do. And I don't want Ceiling Cat to nom me for dumping him and going with your boyfriend.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Faith is not some sort of virtue. It is the voluntary suspension of thinking. It is willfully hypnotizing yourself to believe absurdities.

Don't tell me what my life is and isn't.

Kindly go fuck yourself.

RE: Evidence In Exchange
BTW, OP, are you admitting with this post that there is no good evidence for you God's existence/Jesus-boy's divinity/Hell, etc?

If so, than grats - you've the first theist I've seen here do THAT rather than try to pull evidence out of his ass.

Also, your poll is the worst false dichotomy I've ever seen. In fact, it kind of makes me think this is a troll post (along with the "come inside you" remark lol). But maybe you really are just that dense...
