So why don't you just stop sinning Chad and cut out all this other bullshit?

And live like men rather than like servile slaves to illusions?

Many Arab Christians call their kids 'abd Al-Masíh (the Slave of the Christ)

I think a big reason why many Christians trust the bible is because they've been misled by ignorant or sinister people. From parents, to pastors, to parishioners, there is not enough critical examination of the material, and so the participants become mind-numbed with regard to having any cognitive ability to reconcile what is real, and what is not.

I follow the 'brand' of Christianity outlined in the bible. Sorry you were duped, but that is why we all have been given access to the bible.

Quote:I'm unsure of any benefit of having some "holy spirit" in my life while I'm alive, though -- at least, any benefit unique to such a belief.

You do not see the benfit of having God's ear? To ask Him anything and get an answer. to receive direction, support and love?

To have the Holy Spirit in your life is to have God directly involved in your day to day.

The "rewards" you guys describe here sound about as real as "aligning your chakras" or "wearing a moon stone to deflect the retrogade mercury's ill effects" or "cleansing your body of thetans".

Either you don't know what it is to align your chakras or you have been reading what we are talking about.

I do this regularly during meditation. I can assure you that the process and beneficial results are very real.

You should know by now that I don't buy assurances.

So what is the benefit of all this?

Why yes, its option no. 2 - I have been reading what you are talking about.

Perhaps not mine, but surely you consider the advice and reported experiences of people you consider trustworthy, even if some of those challenge your preconceived notions.

As if "the person is trustworthy" would not be the very first preconceived notion would be unanswerably challenged when that person is found to be saying things the likes of you and Drippy would applaud.

Only in matters where I've judged them to have greater expertise and knowledge. I'm not seeing that here.
