Rewriting the bible

RE: Rewriting the bible
Indeed. If a branch of the church is actually stating the creation account is just plain wrong, why keep it in their book? A catalogue of god's mistakes? How can they continue to revere a book which they admit contains glaring errors. If people are meant to use common sense to pick out what is and isn't true, it's hardly divinely inspired anymore. At the very least they need to highlight the bits that are either false or just stories.

I'd be all for different branches having their own bible. Then one could actually claim some sort of superiority over the others. "Look, we got rid of slavery endorsements! And the creation nonsense! We're more moral and scientific than you." And they'd be right.

Fact is, no one of any denomination follows even half of what the bible says. So why not keep on editing. I know that the fact it's been edited and mistranslated is something the church tries very hard to keep under wraps, but in the internet age people are gonna find out this stuff. Well, if they bother looking.

Hey, where did Michael go? I'd be very interested to hear what he had to say about this. I reckon he might even be for it.

Some hillfolk being about 40 percent of the population, if the charts are right.

Funny thing is, they don't even read their whole Leviticus. It's not only an abomination to lie with another man, there's also the ban of shellfish, Lobster and wearing cloths of two different fabrics.

Ah oh yes, the different fabrics, that's hilarious Smile

Hmm, if christians were given the choice and actually don't want to get rid of the horrific stuff in the bible, or at least re-written to be "clear", I wonder what that says about them?

Here's some rare footage of one of god's meetings:

Especially because it is so generally hyped as the "word of god" and even christians have a hard time explaining why they don't do what it says to do.

Drich is right you are using hearsay, you have nothing supporting your accusations.
You asked for an example here's one for the above.
Read John 8:1-11
John 8:7 And as they continued to ask Him, he stood up and and said to them, "Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her."
Seems Christ is putting an end to stoning, for no one is without sin.
Giving an example you wanted hope you see the truth in it. This is the last I'll reply on this but, like I said you are wrong in your OP.

Matthew 5:17: Think not that I am come to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.

Mattew 5:18: For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle shall in any wise pass from the law till all be fulfilled.

Curse you for making me agree with Drippy...and that other dumb fuck, G-C. They need the OT because they have painted themselves into a corner with their bullshit. You see, if there is no "fall of man" who the fuck needs "jesus?"

The whole silly tale is a house of cards and you can't go pulling out the ones on the bottom without bringing the whole silly mess tumbling down.

The key to remember is that it is all bullshit.

RE: Rewriting the bible
Sure, I totally agree with what you are saying. It would rip up the backbone of the "story".

The thing is, the story is utter nonsense. Even when fully intact, it doesn't make any sense. So my feeling is that it won't make any less sense without the starting bit. A lot of christians, and even that pope guy, seem to finally be admitting evolution as fact (or at least grudgingly accepting it) and that adam and eve didn't really happen. In that case, there's no need for a fictional story trying to represent a real event anyway, that kind of makes the story even less credible.

Also, it is my suspicion that an awful lot of christians don't actually know that jesus is meant to be dealing with the apple debacle. It seems to me they just have this vague notion that "jesus died to save us". I've heard that so many times, and when pressed, the christian generally just repeats it. So getting rid of the apple story wouldn't matter to them either. Especially the ones that haven't even read the bible, which I suspect is a fair number. I certainly know it far better than most christians I have heard talk about the matter.

So I know it's bullshit, but I think that no one would really notice (apart from atheists) if part of the ridiculous story went away. And then christians wouldn't have to constantly defend why they don't do what their god tells them to do. Well, not quite as much.

In addition, I have heard a lot of things along the line of, "Jesus came to get rid of the old testament/so it doesn't apply anymore." So those people actually think the OT is redundant and just included as some sort of history.

Apple debacle. I should patent that Smile

One of my sources is as I said listening to the atheist experience for hundreds of hours, so I have listened to vast numbers of theists calling and got a clear picture about their opinions on the bible.

I'm sure to most atheists what I have said and claimed is common knowledge, but I am happy to find supporting sources if anyone has a query with a particular point. I suppose it was a bit much to expect christians to get on board with this, although I bet they'd be pretty happy if it was just done by the bosses.

Thank you for strengthening my position, it's apparent you have no idea what those verses mean.
