^^ This. Also, while I don't necessarily doubt your assignment, the scope of the topic seems so narrow that your paper is likely to be very thin, I fear. Nonetheless, welcome aboard and please do get to know us on more than an academic level. This is a genuine and thriving community made up of vastly differing individuals - mostly.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

For what it's worth, a lot can be found on atheists on about.com, on Justin Klein's blog.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

Did it work? Welcome to our den of sin regardless. We'll be barbecuing some infants later but byob, we're getting low.

I'm happy to participate but only if it is online.

Hi there Skygirl, welcome Smile

I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.

But a word of warning; atheism is just the position on a single claim (at least one "god" exists). And it's not saying the claim is false; just that it lacks evidence to demonstrate that it is true. I put god in quotes because there is no actual consensus on what a god is, everyone has their own idea.

Anything any particular atheist happens to say further to that is not necessarily representative of atheists as a whole. As such, there is not much to study.

Atheism is the logical conclusion of scepticism, but someone can come to the position by any number of other means too.

Now if you'll excuse me, these babies aren't gonna eat themselves...

"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke
