That's actually not really an issue. You didn't alter the meaning of the quote in any material way; you merely highlighted a portion you felt was relevant. It would be helpful to acknowledge that you did it, but as long as the emphasis is obvious enough, we ought to be able to work it out.

For example, if someone were to quote this post but change it to "I am a big smelly poopy head", that would be a no-no.

Is that OK?
It is a direct, unaltered quote after all....

Touché and well played. The point is, you didn't alter the words, but did you change the meaning of my post? Basically, are you strawmanning me? We always take context into account.

Yeah, I'm more inclined to let little fish like that go. I don't think anyone's going to be misled just by a simple emphatic highlighting. Though as I say, it's helpful if the embolding or whatever is noted; I wouldn't necessarily come down too hard on someone who forgot.

I would like to recommend that those 'wall of text' quotes be tagged. [hide]wall of text[hide] use a slash "/" in front of the second hide. Most of us that care to read the wall of text, have already done so. If we want a refresher, we can click the button to unhide the quote. It makes it so much easier to browse the threads. Thank you.

Even better, consider whether you need to quote it at all, particularly if your post follows on directly from it. See, I'm referencing IATA's post but you can easily follow the flow of the conversation even though I'm not quoting him.

I try to quote a small portion of the previous post, because sometimes I get involved in the response and by the time I hit the post button, someone else may have already posted and the flow is gone.
