Bless the catholics, they do their best to have it both ways, window dressing gives the impression they're onboard with the divorce/remarriage prohibition, and then they sell annulments like crazy. Ever look at stats on annulments? Huge variations from country to country, I'm smelling skulduggery and perfidy on a scale dwarfing the pedo scandal. It's my understanding that other denominations the catholics ostensibly recognize their in-house christian marriages are super easy to annul if the couple (or one of them) jumps to the catholic brand. The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

When I went to a daily mass on Monday, there was a pause in the liturgy where some parishioners spoke their prayer requests aloud. One guy said "for an end to abortion on demand". Then I learned about the ban on contraceptives. I assumed that was ancient history, but nope. Shows how dumb I was I guess.
EDIT: Oh I almost forgot about their belief in Biblical inerrancy, a literal Adam who committed a literal original sin, ... I thought they were more like liberal Christians, but they are more like fundamentalists - only worse.

When we were engaged my wife asked the Catholic church her family belongs to(before she talked to me about it) what it would take for us to get married there, and they said that I would have to convert to Catholicism. The more I hear about the church the more it sounds like an exclusive club, not a religion.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Earth is old - Genesis doesn't have to be read literally, when the Pope says so - evolution happened - God helped - Yay, God! What regular Catholics actually believe depends on the level of education, really, and individual's ability to compartmentalize.

Hell, some stripes of Mormons believe Adam IS God, and also the Archangel Michael, and husband of the Virgin Mary and the father of Christ.
Catholics are tepid in their weirdness.
