I'm more apt to believe the bread of a grilled cheese whose markings look Jesus-like if you squint more than this shit. Entirely due to the grilled cheese factor, for the record.

Mmmm.... grilled cheese.....

I've always found such miracles to be somewhat creepy. There is some of the same stuff in Orthodox Christianity, too and it has always creeped me out a little how believers flock to churches and stand in long lines to see relics such as severed body parts, blood, nails and so on. And all these micarles (holy fire etc.) remind of some primordal shamanistic blood rituals. And I'm not mentioning weird rituals such as exorcism that is still being practiced more or less worldwide. While philosophical aspects are sometimes interesting to discuss these 'lower manifestations' of religion alongside with religious wars and anomosity have always been extremely alien to me.

Hmm, yeah. Religion does seem to appeal to the primal.

There's at least one atheist here that would be right at home among the KKK.

I have some relatively distant acquaintances who are that religious. They're not bad people but when they talk of their faith I feel as if we literaly live in different dimentions with different history, laws of Physics and so on. A feeling that no sci-fi story may replicate. And I've noticed that all of them have rather vague knowledge of their religious documents but all those church miracles and rituals really mean a lot for their perception of the world. And they are usually into forms of superstition that are technically prohibited by the Church. These superstitions interfere with parts and bits of religious dogma they bear and form a truly weird picture of the world.

Apparently there is an ancient belief that the objects touched by a spiritual person may absorb some of that person's spiritual energy. So we get holy water, chrism, saintly relics, icons, etc. Maybe this even explains part of the thinking behind the Eucharist? It seems that some Christians think of the Eucharist almost like Popeye thinks about his can of spinach.

That's by far my favorite one. And I'm keeping it in the quote tree just to see it again Tongue
