I am horrified to learn how many are almost literally in my back yard. I knew of the Oregon City one, but so many others.

It will sound cruel, but I'll say it anyway: selection at work.

I had the same thought.  But, children. Sad

I suppose no action can be taken against faith healers... it's just like homeopathy and all the other bollocks that does nothing. People are stupid and gullible, but these things make it easier to turn that into harm.

An adult can do whatever they please. If they wish to die, fine. But, once you have a kid, that's gotta change. If you have a kid, it's not fucking about you anymore. One major difference between myself and religious crazies is that their relationship to their sky daddy is more important to them than their fucking children. That makes me very sad, and it would make me livid if I had children. They should use that as their argument against evolution. That a fantasy can so easily and pervasively override parental instinct. If these two things came into conflict more often (I guess Catholic priests, faith healers, and STIs/cervical cancer are not enough) maybe that instinct would win out.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

One of the most important aspects of religion is that your god has to be above EVERYTHING. To the point where Abraham is asked to sacrifice his son at one point, and Yahweh tells the isrealites that the first born of everything that they have belongs to him. Also Jesus says that the most important commandment is to love god with all your heart, souls, and mind.

I heard somewhere that Humans in general actually don't have a strong maternal instinct. Mothers need to be taught how to care for their children. I know that whenever I'm holding a baby that's about to go to sleep, they want to rush the kid to the crib five seconds after their eyes close.

You're right, if you have a kid, you should be prepared to put its wellbeing at the top of your priority list. Even above your own. Otherwise, don't have them. If they are going to come second to fairy tales, don't have them.

I have absolutely no maternal instinct for humans, but I seem to have it for animals instead!

It's not that those people do not care about their children. Its the fact that they go about it the wrong way and end up
getting their children killed. More or less there should be laws against faith healing but sadly were never going to see it.

In my opinion; if you're an adult and you want your imaginary pal to oversee your healthcare then go for it, but if you have children you shouldn't get to make that call. It ranges from neglect to murder to do so.

I know, I know. I feel bad having voiced the thought. But our job as parents is to arm our children against the world -- not to drop their defenses.

faith is believing without seeing.. so they won't be seeing any miraculous healings. It is a good way of getting Darwin's little "survival of the fittest" motto to show itself.
