RE: Any ideas?
I use Avast!, as well. It is the best one, in my opinion. And it's free.

Don't you think it's the best one because it is free? Big Grin

Haha! No, but it is a check mark in the 'Pro' column! I've used McAfee, Norton, and a host of 'freeware' versions. I find Avast! to be the most effective and vigilant one out there. It used to be AVG, but not anymore.

Yeah, AVG got an "Advanced" rating in that test. It actually managed to get rid of less viruses than Security Essentials.

The Advanced+ products are:

G DATA
AVIRA
TrustPort
PC Tools
Symantec
F-Secure
ESET
BitDefender
eScan
Avast
Kaspersky

RE: Any ideas?
Current PC ailment commonly doesn't involve virus activity nowadays.

"Our main test currently does not contain adware, spyware, dialers, tools and rogue programs" - http://www.av-comparatives.org/comparativesreviews

Not of much relevance then :S

They test over 1,000,000 sorts of malware. It is very relevant. Have you forgotten the Conficker worm from last year?

It remains pretty poor advice for all round protection.

RE: Any ideas?
I never said it was all round protection. Naturally you should also have a spyware scanner, but the conversation was about virus scanners. They are completely different.

Ok...so you think arguments work like this:

Adrian: Here are some good virus scanners.
fr0d0: That's pretty poor overall advice for computer security.
Adrian: I didn't say it was overall advice, it was virus specific.
fr0d0: Haha! I win!

I'm not so sure...I think I recall you saying that viruses aren't very relevant these days.

Tell you what, you uninstall your virus scanner and let me insert my USB stick into your computer. Then we'll see how irrelevant viruses are...
