RE: Drug Policy
Whatever you choose you're going to be responsible for someone's death. or someone having a crap life there's no perfect solution.
The best thing I can think of is to make everything legal, have extreme health warnings on all drugs relative to what the dangers are, and have an age restriction of no one under 16 17 or 18.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

RE: Drug Policy
Personally I've always wanted to take every hard-core user of destructive drugs like alcohol, heroin, cocaine, crystal meth....

Offer to put them in a very comfortable facility where everything they could want is provided,
but they would not be allowed to leave without signing a contract,
which gives them a choice:

A)  We will pay for and supply all the drugs you want, as well as keep you comfortably housed and fed,
....but if you overdose, we are not resuscitating you.

B)  Get clean, with our help and support.

But you have to stay clean.

If you relapse and we catch you (or want more drugs from us) you go back to the prison, no choice.

But the difference is, this time we will not supply help with rehab.

Instead, we will simply put you in a room with all the drugs you could possibly want,
and you will choose to either work your way through them (which will eventually kill you)

...or you will choose, on your own, to ignore them, and continue to ignore them for a full year,
even though they are readily-available.

As long as they sit untouched, and you choose to ignore them,
you may live comfortably at our expense, within the prison, for up to a year.

If you need unrelated medical help, we will provide it,
but you will get no help with the rehab this time.

This time you must do it on your own, with the drugs sitting right in front of you, for a full year.

Now, if you break down and use the drugs, you can still choose to get yourself clean....but your year will start over.

But you cannot leave until you have successfully ignored the available drugs, by your own free will, for one full year.

RE: Drug Policy
I reluctantly voted to make all drugs legal. Marijuana, without a doubt, should be legal. Hard drugs do so much destruction that emotionally I wish that making the illegal could save some families a lot of pain. Now and then such questions have come up on other forums I have visited and there are always people who have family members with severe addictions. Their stories are very hard to read. Making drugs illegal didn't prevent their family members from getting addicted. The money spent on putting people in jail could be better spent on education and rehabilitation so that those families could get help

Perhaps there should also be studies on why some people seem more prone to be addicted to something. Addictions run in my family but I have noticed that people often substitute one addiction for another. Instead of fighting the war on drugs, our country could do more good by studying why some families seem to have so many addicted individuals in them.

All drugs should be available without a prescription. The government should not protect me from myself.

But we should protect children from themselves.
When do most drug users start?
