You will still be congratulated.  It is what you want, so those of us who think badly of people for wanting children already think badly of you for it, if they are aware of your desire.

Now, if you wanted to adopt children, then I would think it a noble thing, to give a child in need a good home.  There are children already in the world who could use a good home, and it would be a very nice thing to provide a home for one or more of them.

Nonsense.  Have you noticed the congrats Alex has been getting.

The earth is rather over populated.  But I doubt kids born to parents capable of looking after then will add much to the problem.  The developed world problem is that we consume too much and create too much waste per person.  The undeveloped world problem is that they are having more kids than they can feed.

In any case, world over population could be solved in a single generation.  It isn't really exponential.  We could go from 5 billion to 5 is as a species if we decided to.  Not suggesting we do, only that unlike some other problems the fix could be within a generation.

You'd certainly get my best wishes.

I agree. Adoption is a beautiful thing. I have thought about looking into it once I have one naturally, assuming we have more money by then to go through with the whole process.

No, you don't come off as a control freak.  Planning for the future makes good sense.  People who don't plan for the future often end up with problems in the future caused by their stupidity.

Yes, that's my thinking exactly.

In my experience, once someone becomes pregnant, all fucks given for what other people think about it are gone and the sonograms and baby pics start a-flyin' whether people want to see them or not.  Rolleyes

I, for one, don't mind hearing about news that other people are excited about even if I don't really care.  They are excited and want to share what's going on in their lives, why should anyone else shit all over it?  I do it, too, and I'm pretty sure nobody really cares about my stupid shit.

With that said, though, don't over do it to the point where members start blocking you for being annoying.  Tongue

You seem to only be wondering about this now that you know that there is some portion of these forums who are either ambivalent to such an announcement, or would disapprove of you becoming pregnant.  Perhaps you are simply unaware of this contingency in other forums you might participate in?

My decision to not have kids isn't in any way connected to or contingent upon me being an atheist.

Go ahead and make whatever announcements you want to in the forums here.

Can I make one plea with you, though?  Could you please not have 19 kids and counting??

RE: Overpopulation
I have noticed a lot of people become entirely absorbed with their kid, to the exclusion of pretty much anyone and anything around them. I can only think that the kid was used to plug up a hole in a sinking ship...

I'm a little bitch today and I deserve to be dressed up like one.

I will agree with you only to the extent that most people will put their kids before their spouse, and that is not good for the marriage, and ultimately not good for the kids themselves, IMHO (unless there is abuse going on, etc). The way I see it, your spouse should always be the #1 person in your life.

Interesting. The way I see it, kids should take that place, since they need all the protection they can get. Not to the point of spoiling them to become insufferable brats of course.
