Boehner to Quit

RE: Boehner to Quit
Yeah. I don't think Democrats should rejoice just yet. Boehner was actually doing sorta kinda the right thing regarding the impending shutdown of the federal gov, and it looks like he may have succumbed to the pressure. That's not a good thing. In fact, it kind of scares the shit out of me.

Boehner wasn't doing shit.  All he has to do is tell the shitheaded morons of the tea-bagger caucus that he'll pass the bill with democrats and they are SOL.  Instead, he does nothing but coddle the assholes.

Fuck him. He's a jerk.

The lunatics were going to replace him as leader so why not quit on his own terms?

Maybe Frank offered him a job in the Curia ?

Boehner got 216 votes just last January when he was elected speaker.  That was only 25 votes for someone else.  There has been no election in the interim so it is hard to see where the votes would have come from.

You need 50% plus 1 to win.  The plot was for the dissidents to pick up some more collaborators in which case Boehner would have needed some Dem votes to win.  That would have weaken him tremendously.  As it was he barely won the last time.

No they shouldn't. The democratic party is having its share of contention too. That's evident in the in the rift between democrats of the supporters of Bernie Sanders and of Hillary Clinton, not to mention the rumors of Biden entering the race for that party's nomination. I would say that the establishment of the dnc is pushing for Clinton over Sanders while the establishment of the Republican Party is pushing for Bush over Trump. Both Trump and Sanders draw larger crowds at their events over their establishment supported counterparts because they address the concerns of their base. I think the base voters of both parties feel as though they're taken for granted and that they're not being listened to by their respective leadership.

The one who would replace him would likely be lucky to have one or two cards out of the full deck.

In the short run, that might seem to strengthen the tactical game of the republicans right, but in the long run, lack visible opposition of any kind to the republicans right amongst republicans will cause the democrats to fail to lose more often inspite of themselves.

Democrats will lose more battles, but would be carried towards winning more wars by a stronger undercurrent of disgust at the opposition.

RE: Boehner to Quit
I never liked Boehner much, but him stepping down actually worries me.

I mean, he's an idiot and an asshole and all that, but compared to the Republicans who have been front and center since he became speaker, he looks downright reasonable. I'm kinda terrified that he's going to be replaced with someone who's even worse.

He does look bloody evil when he's not crying though, doesn't he? If I was going to cast a thoroughly dodgy, scheming, grandma-strangling shitbastard in a movie, he'd be top of the list based on looks alone.
