You know that it's better to consider somebodies idea then just dismiss it pejoratively right? I disagree totally with mandatory military service, but this does happen in first world countries. You going to tell the Swiss, Danish, or Finnish government that two years in the military is stupid bullshit and they are just a bunch of fucking idiots?

Maybe research, learn, think about it and then dismiss the idea.

Actually I can remember the article I read on it (because when I read something I don't agree with, I tend to research rather than pound my fists and call people cunts) I do think that even though he knew it would be defeated, it was something he believed in. I'm working off of memory but it was something like: in the current system minorities and poor people share too much burden of war, which would be spread out to rich and middle class white people if we had compulsory service. An interesting argument and one you are likely to never find and consider when your base reaction is to just call people an idiot when they have ideas that are different than yours.

I grew up in a country with compulsory military service. Consequently our army was sh*t, it was a giant waste of time for young people trying to find proper work, or start a family and consequently anyone with any sense was doing their best to avoid it - usually by bribing doctors and/or simulating a chronic illness.

Personally, I decided I wasn't going to put myself through this totalitarian nonsense, so I left the country. The army looked for me for a bunch of years, but then they thought better of it and scrapped the mandatory service in favor of smaller, but better funded professional army.

But anyway - forcing everyone into gun-training, so that half of the population can keep using their toys for a while longer - yeah, that sounds like that famous American "Freedum"...

I hate militaries, I hate guns and I hate war. War is just politics taken out on the lives of millions of people. It's disgusting.

That's great. So can I ... just not on this issue. Especially since mandatory military service (MMS) is NOT a commonly held and much practiced belief in the USA, which is the country I very clearly referenced in my OP as "my fellow Americans".

I don't really now what to say if you think of that as really stupid. If you considered it maybe you would make an argument other than 'this is stupid and so is every fucking idiot who believes in it.'

I can and have made a very good argument against it, but I don't have to in this situation. It's that painfully obvious. You act like I have to justify why I think Americans who might support such idiocy are indeed fucking idiots. Are you telling me that I have to plead my case to a guy who actually agrees with me?? Also, I don't see how this has anything to do with morality. Being a soldier or even killing people is not somehow against my moral code. I'm against war because I love peace and prosperity and I'd like to see my great grand children have a wonderful life.
