Yes, I think so, but rather not for the reasons they would like to claim.
I think organized religion encourages some good deeds by providing an opportunity and a bit of peer... encouragement to donate and do stuff. Other organizations or forms of community achieve the same effect (school / parent organized blood drives come to mind for example) but church congregations are both very ubiquitous, and form an easily identifiable category.

But I might like my daughters idea better, which is to tell them that because she's such a bitch, she's going to pray to satan and cast a dark spell to have her unholy master steal her soul, and there's nothing God can do to stop it just like he couldn't stop any number of tragedies.
