I agree with pretty much everything you've said. The defences put forward for religious belief are absolutely shocking. All it goes to show is that the believer does not believe for any of those reasons. They are rationalizations.

Most of the time, I think their brain has been poisoned at an early age and created an irrational emotion belief which will defend itself any way it can. It's trying to convince itself more than other people, so it will say absolutely anything rather than stop and question its own foundation.

I'm sad to say you are unlikely to ever see an improvement. All we can do is promote rational thought in general, discourage further child indoctrination, and accept theists for who they are as long as they're not hurting anyone with their beliefs. If they are, the harm should be challenged.
