heh heh...I was just messin' with you.

My hair's like my avatar, pretty much. Slightly shorter (just below my shoulders) and almost as big, too. With some highlights.
I can't do monochromatic hair.

I wear it into a bun almost every single day of my life. Once in a while, I'll go crazy and twist it up with a banana clip. I straightened it about a year and a half ago out of boredom; blow dried it, and flat ironed afterwards. Then I curled it with a large-barreled curling iron.
Took me almost 3 hours. Lasted less than 20 minutes.

Doesn't bother me, though. I like poofy hair.

Woot Woot!
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

I would absolutely love to get my hands on your hair. Ethnic hair is something I'd like to work more with. I have at least three or four repeat clients who have ethnic hair. They know I don't wash it the "white girl" way. I'm learning how to care for their hair the proper way and it's something I want to do more of.

Huh? What's the "white girl" way of washing hair?
Lather, rinse, totally repeat?

Seriously. I've haven't heard of it. Tongue

As you know, with ethnic hair, in order for it to not get knotted up, it has to be washed in a downward motion by raking the hair with the hands. The tighter the coils, the more careful you need to be. White people generally don't have to do that. They can just vigorously scrub the cap out of their hair. That's what I'm referring to.

Well...that explains a lot, then.

After I wash my hair, I get a BIG brush with little balls on the bristles and begin detangling.
Start at the ends, and work my way up.

It is a process.

I'll agree, it is a process but the best thing you can do for your hair is to use a pic and not a brush. The hair is weakest when it is wet. Curly hair breaks easily because the areas of the hair strand that are curly are its weakest points. Hair is made up of end bonds which are made up from disulfide bonds. The hydrogen bonds are easily broken by water. When you take a brush through your hair, you can cause more damage or breakage.

If I may make a suggestion; if you can use coconut oil or a daily moisturizing lotion made for hair, that would be the best thing. I have to assume that you already know this though Smile

Design essentials makes something called Curl stretching cream. You can find it at any salon that sells Design Essentials Naturals. What it does is it gently stretches the curls and makes them loose. When dry, you lose the frizz. It's a great product for natural hairstyling. Even better if you have tight coils but you want a softer look without a lot of product.

Also, have you ever wrapped your hair at night?
