Would you attack the Church if you could?

Would you reveal the truth to believers if you could? Like, if there was a way to suddenly show them what really happened during the time of their magical heroes, would you do it? It's a one-time-deal wormhole you found or something, rather than simple advancement of science.

Assume for the purposes of the question that they wouldn't simply ignore this evidence like WLC would. It would bring their faith crashing down.

I suppose we have the same question for theists, would they want to see the truth and know once and for all! Worth a separate topic I wonder Huh

lol, I don't know what Jesus did to piss God off, but demoted to King of Poland?! He had to have screwed up badly somewhere.

Best way to 'attack' the church is to do what we did over here - institutionalise them and corral their influence. Make them irrelevant.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I think the Church cant reedem itself after all the damage it has done to humanity. Torturing and murder would not be enough to make them paid for what they have done. But if you had the power to command an army to attack the Church/Vatican would you do it? Would you like to see their blood spilled on the floor? Or would you brutally tax them?

The violent part within me would do this: Murder every cardinal of the Vatican, including the Pope. Destroy every church and crucify its priest upside down. Then, build a momument of shame with the name of every priest who has worked in that church.

What about you? Let the rage flow through your veins.
What the fuck is wrong with you? Your persuasive arguments against religion are not strong enough to convert believers so you want to kill human beings. Petty tyranny!

Well, I once attacked a priest, but that was a personal matter.

I really can't envision myself taking part in wholesale clerical slaughter, OP style.  Once atheists abandon freedom of religion as a basic human right, we've become great, steaming hypocrites.

This belongs in the R'ylor (sp?) subforum.  But no, of course not.  My disappoint over religion has not resulted in such a butt booboo as to require those measures.

I'd rather see the consequences of 'belief' upped high enough those inclined in that direction will fold rather than be inconvenienced further.

Oh, you have a Christian marriage and want a legal divorce? So sorry, First Amendment and all that, you can't have one. Too bad, so sad.

Oh, you want treated for your medical condition caused by an evolved bacteria? So sorry, you can't have treatment because we respect your beliefs that it can't happen. Too bad, so sad.

Oh, you want a crop insurance pay out for your drought loss? So sorry, there are two different varieties of seed planted in that field, claim denied, you didn't do it right. Too bad, so sad.

The idea that you can beat another group into submission on a planet of 7  billion is fucking absurd. Not even atheists agree between themselves on political or economic issues. NO,  I would NOT. Self defense is one thing, but aggression is quite another.

In the civil west you protect everyone through common law. That does not mean you cant or should not use criticism or blasphemy or even cussing. It merely means regardless of what someone else says unless they are acting out in violence or advocating violence, you have no right to harm them.

I hate the concept of religion, not all religious people as individuals, just the concept. And by the word "religion" I mean every single one past and present, monotheistic and polytheistic in our entire species history. Our species morality is in us so religious people CAN be very capable of great compassion, not because compassion has magical roots, but because humans evolved with that to foster cooperation.

I can value the likes of Ann Frank and still call the Jewish god claim Yahweh fiction without hating her as an individual. I can value the compassion of Martin Luther King Jr and also say "No I love you man, but there is no such thing as a magic baby with super powers". I can value the bravery and courage of Malala and say, "GOOD FOR YOU for sticking up for girls/women's rights, but that does not make Allah a real god".

We see compassion in other mammals. Elephants have been proven to display emotions and compassion for family members and their young and mourn their dead. We see dogs all the time protect their owners. We as a species are NOT as different as we would like to believe. My problem with the CONCEPT of religion, is that it is mostly a result worldwide of parents passing it down to children when they have no adult reasoning skills. That causes people to only think local and while that tribalism does create safety in numbers, it is local which DOES NOT give that individual or family or community or nation a good global view.

There has never been, or is now, such a thing as a perfect religion, or unifying religion. Even within the same umbrella label, you have sub sects that do not agree on interpretation or whom their leaders should be. NOT ONE religion in the world escapes this flaw.

Sunnis and Shiites have different interpretations of the Quran. But even in the west, a white republican Baptist has a much different interpretation of the bible as a black liberal Baptist. But even with Buddhism that flaw exists. China, despite the west being sold as anti religion, is full of religious people, Buddhists included. But you wont get them to agree with a Tibet Buddhist or a Japanese Shinto Buddhist.

I include the word "atheist" too even though it is position and not a religion. I may not believe in a god, but I certainly do not like all atheists. I am a socially economic liberal, but DO NOT agree with illusionist Penn about economics. I hate Ayn Rand who was an atheist too. Stalin was an atheist but again, so what, he was still a monster.

No, if I had the power I would not force religion out of existence as if one could in any case. Progress is in education and promoting critical thinking skills at a young age. The world already has enough war mongers and violence.
