Oh, it's been demonized as all of the above (except muslim, because the right wing in america decided to demonize their entire religion recently in respect to history) for decades.
There was a time when there were conservative panels on the government who would pick people practically at random and decide if they were treasonous or not based any and all association with anything they felt was communistic.

There is perhaps one important difference-- there are conservatives who actually WATCH it actively and don't get it. Its another thing to see brief clips and a bit of hearsay.
I still haven't figured out if Conservapedia is a joke-- or perhaps has been hacked-- but it is hard to tell. US conservatives are getting more difficult to out-crazy these days...

No, I mean that some conservatives don't realize that Stephen Colbert, that is his entire show, is a mockery of them. Some of them actually believe he's really a conservative commentator.
