Islam, a growing threat to the free world?
RE: Islam, a growing threat to the free world?
Perhaps, Chuck, if you would remove your head from your ass, you might see the Words that I'm talking about. Smile

@Thor:
Nice way to selectively read my post. I wrote it in that post you chopped up, and then again in another post, how God communicates. Not listening very well today, are we?

Oh, and has your atheism succeeded in planting even iota of doubt in our brother's mind about his and 'his brood's' beliefs?

These are serious questions from me, I do not mean to insult. If God's message was clear, why did it need translating? And did the Koran translate it into Arabic?

I'm guessing the authors of the Bible, those who wrote with pure intentions of depicting God, deemed a written documentation of God's works and ways would be beneficial for those not yet in the know. I don't claim to know what exactly each and every writer was thinking with his contribution to the Bible, but from reading the book itself, I can make guesses about it.

And no offense taken, Existentialist. Smile The Koran may be God's Word in Arabic, however, I haven't read any of it and thus I do not know. So far, I have found that the Christian Bible has been more comprehensive than any other holy text in matching up with my observations of God. Hense why I choose Christianity.

When have I ever said anything remotely hateful?

Once the Bible got into the hands of the common man, who thought about things and came to understand God quite well, it's words were more clearly and accurately spread throughout the world.
...
The point I'm making is that the Bible isa collection of observations about life as it relates to God. They were observing God in real life, and describing Him and His ways as best as they could with their limited human ability and knowledge. They did not include, nor did they even get correct, everything about God within the Bible.

He is far too vast for one book to contain.

The issue really isn't that complex. Here are your two options:

1. The Bible IS the Word of God
2. The Bible IS NOT the Word of God

You seem to want to say, "well, it's not but..." This is not an option. Is/is not are you two options. Which is it?

Quote:What a shame that the most famous writers of Christian theology throughout the ages, from Augustine to Luther, and the leaders that inspired both Catholic and Protestant sects, from Torquemada to the Salem witch hunters, didn't have your insight into the true teachings of the Bible. How could they have been so blind that for nearly 2000 years they'd gotten it all wrong? Well, at least your here now and better late than never, right?

Well thats where you are wrong. Its only been in the past several centuries that our theology has been distorted Wink

Quote:And martyrs get 72 virgins. Look, kid, religions change. This one has changed for the worse along most sects. Let's not forget you used to be able to buy indulgences from the catholic church. Religions change when it makes it easier to spread their mindvirus, destroy their enemies or survive.

Show me in the Quran that you will get 72 virgins if you kill yourself? And show me where you can buy indulgences so you can get people out of purgatory from the Bible?

Quote:And according to Christians, thou shalt not kill. Yet, that didn't stop Christians from killing throughout the years.

Your point being? If I wore a red hat and the Bible told me I should not, should you throw the Bible out as being rubbish or perhaps throw me out as somehow distorting the Bible?

DeistPaladin, I believe in universal justification, that everyone has received justification, it depends what kind of life, if they continue to keep it (i.e. if you go against your conscious, I would say that is fairly dangerous, read Romans 2).
Its ok to have doubt, just dont let that doubt become the answers.

@Chuck:
Then you are ignoring an enormous amount of this thing we humans call 'life' and don't even know it. I wonder what words you think I'm talking about?
Sorry to double post, but...

DeistPaladin, that is the stupidest ultimatum I have ever heard. How is it one or the other? The Bible is the word of God, as interpreted by man. Man is falliable, this, his interpretation of the Word of God is also falliable. What part about that is not fucking clear enough for you?

EDIT: Whoa. There apparently are no double posts in AtheistforumsLand! Tongue

After not reading my Bible for months (I was about to give it all up) I began reading Romans. Romans is so powerful, so beautiful that if I was to reject the Christian God, I would still use the Bible to learn about God.
The bible for Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 shows God's plan to redeem this earth, this world and this universe, back to Him. We dont know why there ever had to be redemption, but for some reason there is evil in this world/universe and the Bible shows us that one day its going to be renewed. When Christians say they are going to go to heaven when Jesus comes back, they havent read the Bible, this planet will be restored to its orignal beauty. The damage humans have done to the planet will be reversed and I cant wait for that day...

It would not be sporting to skewer this one.

Can I catch and release?
