In other news, a study conducted by the Fishing Is Fun Institute concludes that, among people who find fishing enjoyable, the overwhelming majority enjoy fishing.

And a study conducted by the same institute found that fishers are overwhelming more open minded about the practice of fishing than are fish who tend to focus on the negatively.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

I'd rather be a little close-minded than be open to financially supporting an organization which shelters molesters.

We can't help it. There's this book that tells us to hate gays, and not intermarry, and hate other similar beliefs for being false.....oh wait. That's the theists. Granted there are closeminded atheists out there, but not because they were raised on a book that says they'll be punished if they condone other beliefs and lifestyle choices.

Yeah there is open minded as in a willingness to consider new information and then there is just clueless gullibility. Don't think I want to be the most loosely open minded person in the room.

IKR?  Brains might fall out - as evidenced by the religious.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

There seems to be this need from both "sides" at times to put the other down as if this will somehow bring people to "their" side. Honestly, there's open minded and closed minded people who are atheists and theists, so I wonder about the validity of these "studies." How about Einstein etc...he seemed so open minded that many of his peers thought he was crazy for his theories. (although, he didn't believe in the idea of a personal god, not sure if he considered himself agnostic or an atheist) I would say that I've met many more close minded religious types than atheists, in general. Many religious people only view life according to their "holy book" and can't see any new thoughts or ideas past that.

Bet they also find that crackers can be magically transformed into godflesh by men in dresses. If people from a catholic university found that water was wet, I'd have to stick my hand in it just to make sure. Knowing them, it would all have been an elaborate ploy..and I'd find a priests crotch at the bottom of the bucket.

So true! Casting broad generalizations onto hugely diverse populations is just dumb (and really closed-minded).

Theists and atheists can be closed or open minded depending on their personal outlook, intelligence, and life experiences. Believing or not believing in a deity isn't the single contributing factor here.

Agree!

My parents are Catholic, and sadly, my dad believes everything coming out of the Vatican. Lol
