RE: New Study: atheists are less open-minded than theists

Theists in general are more open minded to everything in their holy book.
This gives most religious people a hell of a lot of room for maneuver since the mainstream religions cover beliefs in things such as giants, witches, talking animals, magic, and most importantly gods.
Outside of the book nothing is even to be taken into consideration.
The best example of this, a Nigerian I worked with who believed in mermaids, vampires, lizards who turned into men and ghosts. But there's no chance of convincing him dinosaurs existed. It's not even up for debate.
As an atheist I probably am more close minded than theists. I do have ridged close minded opinions about all the holy books, I think they're all bullshit. Including all supernatural creatures included in them and supernatural actions.
To me it's another example of a word/phrase being thought of as negative when it isn't necessarily, being close minded.
Same goes for ignorance. Ignorance can be a virtue, the best way to stay focused on importance things is to ignore the unimportant things.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.

I honestly wouldn't have posted the OP if I had payed more attention to what I was reading.
I was still groggy, having just woken up, and I completely missed the part that Jesster pointed out immediately in the first response.

Atheism is specific to one thing only.
They want to say we are closed minded, fine, but specify that it is with regards to belief in gods only. Why can't they do that? That's right, they're a lying sack of shit still trying to deceive whenever they can.
The very fact that they would post stuff like that speaks volumes about their desperation for followers.

Both sides are extremely close minded, just about different things is all.
'Extremely'? Fuck off with that bullshit. Per capita it's vastly skewed the opposite way they're claiming. Or is 'critical examination of the facts' considered to be the definition of closed-minded? A rational skeptic can't help but believe anything for which there is compelling evidence. Indoctrinating someone into a theistic tradition quite literally suspends this ability towards a broad spectrum of topics. Is wanting evidence of something that seems logically impossible, morally unsound and contrary to all other established knowledge really closed-minded or just yet another one of the many examples of how theists project their own intellectual and moral failings onto their opponents?
As I've said before, most atheists emerged from a faith tradition. They didn't reject it outright from the start, it had to fail to convince them at some point but was believed for at least some period of time. So how the fuck does closed-minded factor in there if they've by and large walked on both sides of the fence?
Aron Ra said it quite nicely: "While my mind is open, it is not EMPTY."
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?

There is no better way to convey the least amount of information in the greatest amount of words than to try explaining your religious views.

By "open minded" they mean "willing to accept the possibility that God exists. . . and that fucking young boys is a 'lifestyle.'"

Besides... even if the study is accurate:

Does "open minded" to the Catholics, mean "more likely to consider the possibility that a ghost stole my cheeseburger." ?

Out-Damn-Standing ya nit-wit. You just proved my freaken point with that close minded statement.
Next we can debate the benefits of tax sponsored religious organizations and events, gay rights, woman’s rights, the rights of a fetus, the muslim right of consent to be nine years old, and let’s say the right to own slaves. I bet you're extremely close minded on most (if not all) of those issues. Hell, anyone that can have their mind changed on issues like that doesn’t know where they stand to begin with. Thus…. Extremely close minded.
