I have not paid for TV in over 20 years. We owned one to use with DVD player only. I have never watched a reality TV show. The last two years though I have been binge watching some shows that I think are epic! As far as CD's whimperings about the decline of moral standards on the telly I submit this:

Educational!
God thinks it's fun to confuse primates. Larsen's God!

People can be so silly sometimes. Thanks to Christian histrionics over the years they think morality means "sex only." There are many other reasons to judge a person or person's lack of morals.

For the record, if the studs and starlets of tv and hollywood were chaste as lilies, it would still be terrible.

And by the way, even immoral scandalous sex is less "sexy' nowadays. In the past it was seen as a special event.

Now its just some animalistic mating ritual, or considered the same as grabbing a drink at the bar.

If they made Titanic today, Jack and Rose would have been portrayed as old "fuck buddies" instead of new lovers. Rose would probably reminisce about the time Jack fucked her on a trash dumpster outside a progressive fair trade co-op. Or perhaps I am thinking of Titanic crossed with Lena Dunham's "Girls."...still crazier things have happened.

I am more concerned about your favorite playground being a sanctuary for child rapers than I am about dramatic media portrayals of sex. I let my kids watch tv but my kids were not allowed anywhere near a Catholic Church.

My main suspicion is the reason for this is that God and religious belief in general have suffered a massive decline over the past ten years. Even many irreligious people a decade or two ago woudl claim that religion is a good thing basically and Christianity informs there world view.
bold mine.

Got any proof that irreligious people ever said this?

Quote:This seems to be a less and less common viewpoint with each passing year.

Irreligious people don't have that viewpoint. That's one of the things that makes them irreligious. Again - proof?

Quote:If one isn't as connected to God, I have heard one's intellect becomes more clouded and confused.

Where did you hear this? Your pastor? Your head? Of course this is the opinion you hold. You're brainwashed by the close-minded religious world.

Quote:Maybe this is the reason so much junky fast food equivalent and nihilistic television is so popular. Maybe that is why there is little to no inspiration for new ideas.

One doesn't need religion to have "inspiration" for new ideas. I don't think you really thought all of this through much.

Quote:Or maybe in it's 80 some years of existence, Hollywood and television are almost fresh out of ideas and can only really rehash what already has been done. Any thoughts?

Can't really say why tv is so mundane now. I have been a "cord cutter" since 2012. If I want news - I come here because someone is always on top of the important stuff I'm interested in.

Have you bothered to check out the Sci-fi channels on cable? They'll probably stimulate your mind more than the reality tv crap that peppers networks now these days.

There it is! I saw "media," and figured it was only a matter of time before you brought Jews into it.  Do you think you're sly?  Is this really the best way you can think to spend your free time?
