As a teacher...

#1. Are we going to get paid more for this?  My guess is no.  They didn't pay us more when they required we become CPR certified (at least that made sense)

#2. What happens when a teacher decides to go ballistic on their students, and shoots up a school?  Do you then give guns to the kids?  Eventually everyone has a gun.  That's the goal isn't it?

#3. The NYPD has roughly 40% firing accuracy.  What do you really think our accuracy is going to be?

#4.  What happens when I shoot the school shooter, then--another teacher, mistaking me for the gunman shoots me.  Then the SWAT team arrives, and witnessing that teacher having shot me--the swat team mistakes the other teacher for an active shooter, and shoots them.  Do my husband and kids get paid $3M in NRA money to hopefully make it all go away?  Or does that money just go directly to Marco Rubio?

#5. I'm 5'4, and weigh roughly 110 lbs, how hard would it be for a student to overpower me and get my gun?

That was also my first thought.

For guns to be effective against an attack of this type, they would need to be very readily and quickly available, which of course means they are available to everyone I can see your scenario being acted on very quickly. Of course it's not limited to students going batshit either, a teacher could too.

I find it so frustrating when you have guns a tool designed literally to kill people is not seen as a problem.

I think having a couple of armed guards in public schools would be a good idea. But not teachers, obviously lol.

We have armed guards in casinos and banks because money is valuable.
We have armed guards in large jewelry stores because gems are valuable.
We have armed guards in warehouses because inventory is valuable.
Politicians and celebrities have armed guards because (they believe) their lives are valuable.
Museums have armed guards because fine art is valuable.

So do we value our children?

Someone on Reddit made a great point yesterday.

Say you have a teacher with a gun. Say a kid starts shooting up the school. The teacher risks their life and tracks down the kid and shoots them. At the same time, the police burst in, or maybe one of the “armed guards” is already there. They see a teacher shooting a student. What do they do?

Tensions are already high. A teacher is going to get mistaken for an active shooter at some point.

Then what do we  do put them in theaters, hotels , parks , Or any place a mass shooting might happened ? This also a response to Wooter . Armed guards everywhere is not a solution .
