Still Angry about Abraham and Isaac

The point of the fable seems to be that the Hebrews were better than the neighbouring pagans because their god doesn’t sacrifice children.

Jehovah? Are you a witness? That seemed an odd thing to call him.

No. The point of the fable is blind obedience is expected. You're expected to trust this god and do whatever he asks even if it's child sacrifice. Even if the kid is your own.

Like I SAID Abraham didn't expect to be stopped. His example is held up as one to be followed, having so much faith he was willing to kill a child for his god.

"The Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away."

Abraham & Sarah(the one who laughed), were resigned to the fact that they would not
have a child. So, they both knew that Isaac was a "gift" from God. They also understood
and witnessed God's Power!

You, have no evidence of the Power of God. At least none that you acknowledge.
So, why would you understand any of it?

If I had to look at it as a neutral bystander? I'd say: "...give that guy w/ Power what He wants, and what is His."

Because, POWER is all that people really understand... Whoever may wield it!

Amen

It the Tetragrammaton. What’s so odd about it?

So, people with power should be given whatever they want? You might want to think that through.

RE: Still Angry about Abraham and Isaac
A christian should know that the sacrifice of isaac wasn't about weilding absolute power, but about establishing the legitimacy and details of christs sacrifice. Personally, I think the most interesting detail of the story is that abraham walked down the mountain alone.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I have only heard the name Jehovah used primarily by Jehovah's Witnesses. I thought you mighta caught that from how I asked about it, but I guess not. ^^;;

I thought Yahweh was how it was used in reference to that. ...but then again, Mormons think the true name of the god character is Elohim(which is just another version of the same thing, correct?). It just struck me as odd, that's all.

Jehovah, Yahweh, and YHWH are all the same word.
