Just to clarify, the real question is this...

"Don't you all find it funny that a nonexistent being like God has a hold on so many people in this world, in a way like an authoritarian person?"

Keep in mind that as @arewethereyet said, God does not really exist. So basically, knowing that, I was more so talking about this as a metaphorical sense and asking more about a nonexistent being still getting a hold on real people being an odd thing, with the authoritarian comparisons being an attempt to reinforce that. This is especially in regards to Christianity God, by the way.

I do not believe in God, and I am sure many others here do not either, but I saw some people posting about God and typing in the sense that he could or does exist. I do realize this may not be the case, at all, so as unnecessary as this may be, just wanted to clarify.

Nah, his flood just killed all the Polynesians because they didn't worship him. There were a few other peoples who had never heard of the goat herders' god that got genocided for the same reason. Everybody outside the Middle East at a rough estimate.

Yeah, I was saying "subtle" just to be safe. In other words, I was starting off with a "minimum" just to make sure, while knowing it could be higher than that.
