Your analogy fails because it is not necessary to believe in god for spiritual enlightenment.

Well I see this topic goes over like a lead balloon on this site which is to be expected. I was hoping for one with a bit more curiousity but it doesn't seem so yet but who knows.

If we are in Plato's cave psychologically what is the sense sense is believing in anything? The solution is not in belief but in acquiring an impartial mind that neither believes or denies but remains open.
The reason we're not accepting your analogies uncritically or at face-value is because, as you've nicely demonstrated, open mindedness without any demand for evidence for new ideas is almost certainly bound to accept a lot of crap.

Your evidence filter is in dire need of changing Nick and no mechanic can help you there.

What kind of evidence do you need to prove to yourself and others that you are hungry? Do you need to submit three statements by physicians to support this belief?

So, now you are equating recognition of the supernatural to wanting a pizza?

Precisely. And what is odd to me is that you cannot see in what way they are the same.

Except that pizza is real....and far more satisfying than jesus or any of his implausible god friends.

"The danger is not lest the soul should doubt whether there is any bread, but lest, by a lie, it should persuade itself that it is not hungry." Simone Weil

You are open to physical hunger but closed to spiritual hunger. The fact that you are closed does not mean it isn't as real to others as physical hunger is to you.

Exactly right, lad. Physical hunger is real. "Spiritual hunger" is made up shit like the rest of your phony religion.

If you disagree, let's see your evidence.

My guess is you have nothing more than silly assertions.

I can see some girl saying I love you to you. You would say "let's see your evidence. My guess is you have nothing more than silly assertions."

If it works for you, go for it.

No, Nick, that isn't how it would work. You continue to conflate supernatural mumbo-jumbo with reality. They do not mix. A peyote trip with Carlos Casteneda doesn't mean you actually contacted the egg-beings lording over the energy circuits above the ether.

There is a reason pizzas and amatory females are popular with men: They exist.

Your soul angst won't serve you well amongst pragmatics.
