Yes sometime it happen that newspapers make up stories in order to sell more paper however this story has solid foundations.

One newspaper.
Local edition.
And no other newspaper covering it.

Yeah - that newspaper made it up.

Prove it. Prove that a carbon dating test has determined it to be 7000 years old instead of repeating it ad naseum.

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I do surrender to your logic.
Unless the carbon dating evidence is published in some western journal it does not exist.
Let us even forget about the Indian way of carrying out work and their notorious bureaucracy.
Maybe in the next 50 years when the Indians will do the right things we may see this report published in the right place.
In the meantime we just say that this carbon dating is all made up. Confused FallWink ShadesConfused Fall

You surrendering to logic would be a first.

You can provide the evidence published in any eastern journal - in fact, you can provide evidence issued by the ASI.

It has already been 15 years since the temple's discovery. And the ASI has provided evidence for a lot of later discoveries. Stop making excuses.

No, the carbon dating thing is real. Whatever crap you are saying is made up.

(August 11, 2011 at 1:28 pm)Tiberius Wrote: Since people tend to be very varied in their "Religious Views", the amount of atheists on this site is relatively unknown. I can't be bothered to go around and count the number of "none", "anti-theist", "are you kidding me?" responses, so I'd like to post this very simple poll.

It has two options. If you believe in some sort of God (doesn't matter if you are a Christian, a Deist, a Wiccan, etc) then answer "Yes". If you don't believe in God (and that includes people who don't think the question is relevant), answer "No".

I just want to keep things very simple; I don't want to cause a debate over terms; if you think you believe in God, answer in the positive. If you don't think you believe in God, answer in the negative. If you are unsure what you believe, don't answer at all.

You can discuss your votes below; in fact this is encouraged as it will keep the thread highlighted in search results and so more people will be able to vote. Hopefully we'll be able to get most of the active users within a few days.

Could you explain a little more.

Do I believe in god as some kind of invisible supreme supernatural being(s) or do I believe there is such a thing as the concept of god, these two ideas are very different despite the fact they are often conflated (mainly by religious people). I think that is a fairly fundamental distinction that is important. I believe in the latter but not the former.

"The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions" - Leonardo da Vinci

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

i'm agnostic, so my position is i don't know whether there is a god or not but do feel there is some sort of a life force.

Me too on both counts.

Like the majority of the people on these forums I too am agnostic .. as well as an atheist (so far as I can tell given the really shitty definitions of 'god' one hears).

I also feel there is a life force. I feel that I am alive and I literally depend on the consumption of other life forms to maintain that force in me.

On the atheist experience some guy asked Matt, "so do you not believe in God, or all the other gods too?"

I'll shut up now.

I cannot accept a 'something from nothing' scenario in any way shape or form. Under this philosophy, I must accept the universe (and beyond) is alive.

The real question for me is, what are the possibilities that the universe is aware? Not in a controlling god sort of way of course, but rather a quantum level entanglement of awareness.
