I can respect someone who's anti-religion if he's also pro-truth. Dawkins is just the most famous example of someone who's anti-religion but comfortable with repeating falsehoods.
There are other atheist authors that I prefer to read. Dawkins just doesn't hold my attention like some others do. For some reason he's held up as some sort of leader for all atheists though. I suppose theists think that people have to have a fearless leader, real or not.
Even in one season of the tv show "Dexter" there is a religious loon who kills (or just tries to? can't remember anymore) a professor that is based on Dawkins.
Religious people are obsessed with Dawkins. I remember some years ago Dawkins tweeted a link to some hilarious essay against him where some theist was "debunking" him and ending with words like "Maybe the atheism hasn't been put down, but one of its greatest dragons has." Too bad I can't find that link anymore.
What makes people believe Dawkins is some kind of "Authority" (to me)? I couldnt care less what a random guy thinks about Dawkins. Why do people like Bel dont talk to me abou tmy beliefs, instead attack some random other dude on the net they believe impresses me. Its outright silly
The thing is it is easy to debunk religion and you have to be a theologian to debunk religion as much as you have to be an astrologer to debunk horoscopes--which is not really.
@Belacqua If that were the accepted standard, then loads of the greatest literature in history would be missing. Also, you seem more concerned with credentialing than with actual knowledge.
