@Belaqua I don't encourage the "alienation" of believers by creating "another meaning for believing" that belief in religion is "not the normal human belief"
@Belaqua I'm not sure there's any real semantic difference between the two. I can assent to the proposition that women deserve equal rights and I can commit to the ideal that the world is round.
The word "belief" has two meanings. 1) assent to a proposition, e.g. "I believe the world is round." 2) commitment to an ideal, e.g. "I believe in equal rights for women." Religious belief can be either, or a mixture.
Well, Muslims claim that non-Muslims choose not to believe in Allah and choose to go to hell, as well as that they are predestined not to believe in Allah - it's self-contradictory, but that doesn't matter to them. https://youtu.be/3xxbVOgDVbM
I don't believe a human can choose to believe, or to not believe. Either a god makes sense to you, or it doesn't, or you're uncertain, or somewhere in between. You are a result of your experiences, and they inform your beliefs.
So, is the average human qualified to choose their own religion? If the "Bell Curve" is to be believed, half of all people are dumber than the other half. What if they're just not fit to choose a belief system?
@Spooky I'm in NE also, about 60 miles away from you. Around 60K here have been effected as of 9:30AM. Expected to continue the rest of the day. Thankfully only one hour at a time.
