If your home is going to be invaded there's quite a few problems you'll face if you live in a society that has banned guns.
The perpetrator might still have a gun, despite the ban(or some other weapon).
The perpetrator might not be alone, he might have people helping him in order to overpower you no matter how skilled you are(or he might overpower you for a lot of other reasons such as being younger, more fit, better at fighting, and so on).

Yawn. Guns aren't the end-all and be-all of home defense. Come visit and I'll show you.

They aren't the only tools out there to protect yourself, but they are the best ones in some scenarios.
And your home is not the only place you'll need them.

I've never needed a firearm as a civilian. And "some scenarios" needs expanding, I think.

Hanky: I doubt any of my neighbours I've ever had have had guns. Of course I can't know that for sure. Everyone I've ever known in my life hasn't owned a gun, to my knowledge. Policemen do not generally carry them either. I've never witnessed a situation where a gun was remotely needed by any party.
I've never seen one, and I hope it stays that way! I hate the things.

That doesn't mean you'll never need them or that others didn't already need them.
A good scenario would be if a bunch of jihadists started killing people in a public place you happen to be in.

You're arguing against guns because of your feelings on the matter? That's great.

No, I wasn't making any arguments at all. Not everything I write is an argument.

"A good scenario"? Where do you live?

That's irrelevant. You asked for a scenario. I gave you one.
