That in itself won't resolve the problem either. But I can only be amazed at the economical ignorance displayed here, in this very thread. Trump isn't Superman to make American corporations stay. They will still migrate to greener pastured where workers rights are non existent and wages are as low as they get. Lowering taxes, as has been proven since Reagan, doesn't do shit, as long as other countries offer real opportunities for exploitation. And, as opposed to individuals, migration for companies is easy. They are welcomed with open arms everywhere in the world. Penalize them for moving and apple or google become chinese or indian companies overnight. The larger they are, the easier it is for them to evade anything being thrown at them.
A socialist won't stop globalisation but it will help workers get a better deal.
Not that globalisation is a bad thing. Scooby complains about importing of cheap labour such as IT from India, but if they didn't those workers would still exist. The difference being that all the IT would be done in India and not America and America would be worse off as it loses out on taxes. Protectionism never works. Say Drumpf starts to giving an unfair competitive edge to American products being sold in America, then all the other countries in the world do the same against American goods. Then America finds that they it is only selling to itself and is worse off. As has been pointed out many times on this thread so far and constantly ignored by the Drumpf supporters, if you stop immigrants then the cost of living goes up because companies need to spend more on their wages. Thing is, America is a fading empire and nothing will change that. Empires are built on energy which allow the exploitation of resources. This is what society is built on. Britain was the largest empire in history at its peak. This happened because of the exploitation of steam power and copious coal reserves. America had its oil and the internal combustion engine. Now all the other countries are catching up. Drumpf can say that he will make America great again but unless he develops something akin to fusion power or cheap asteroid mining then it won't happen. Empires come to an end in a variety of ways. Britain was lucky in that it gave away most of its colonies but we're still cursed with the empire mentality when we should accept that we are a small country. Most empires fall. Some remain as religions and exert global control that way (e.g. Catholicism and Wahhabism)
Trump cannot reverse the trade deficit. That is a result of material productivity declining, and is an artifact of our economy moving to an information base. Bytes aren't counted, in exports. Steel is.

No we are not fading, and if we are it is because of the uber rich and the global race for cheap labor. But that can change if more workers stand up to these fucks, but not just here, but globally. You certainly cannot stop global business, but you don't minimize conflicts by starving people. Evolution will always produce stress in an ecosystem when it is out of balance. These corporations want to produce their products as cheap as it gets. But they want to sell them in the West. Widespread poverty is on the rise here. In my country it already broke the 10 percent mark and in Germany, if I recall the numbers correctly, 50 percent of the population doesn't pay income tax because they earn so little that they don't qualify to be taxed. So, with less people being able to buy, the consumer base is melting away like ice in the sun. Give it another one or two decades, and the business model of outsourcing won't pay anymore. Evolution will always produce stress in an ecosystem when it is out of balance. It all comes down to energy. We're entering the long emergency. America is the most energy consuming country on the planet and will find the transition the hardest of all. Peak oil hit in America well before global peak oil. The technology that America exploited in its hey day is now ubiquitous around the world. You cannot compete in manufacturing with the likes of Chindia because of their cheap wages and low cost of living. The rest of the world is now being exploited by ... the rest of the world. An empire by necessity has to exploit other countries. Competing economically will require environmental costs such as with fracking or China using coal. The only thing that can stop the American empire from fading is to find a new source of energy and resources to exploit. America would have made the transition better if it had invested properly in its people and education. Instead it tries to buy up talent from the rest of the world. But hampering this is a lack of a decent medical system, rampant bigotry instilled in the legal system, gun crime and racism. RE: vote Donald trump!?

Not saying that the rest of the world wouldn't follow similar rules, but the American Ferengi culture doesn't allow for the devlopment of new sources of energy. As long as there's a buck to be made using fossils, there won't be any significant push towards renewables. Politicians being in the pocket of major oil companiies certainly don't help. |
