Perhaps we don't, but perhaps a very big reason for the structural racism in America is simply down to being civil to one another. In the UK, we are considered civilised to others, we are more welcoming to others, and we have black communities who are and have been integrated into a white community for over 3-4 generations. So, be more civilised towards those who are of different races and maybe, just maybe the USA will finally drag itself into the 21st century.

I think YOU are the racist, and others besides you. You are, along with others here are clearly narrow-minded and only see two colours, black and white, anything in between doesn't exist and this goes for the media too. You are not capable of seeing nuances. It is a good job you don't use photoshop. There are blacks who don't want to talk about racism anymore simply because they want to get on with their lives, just like other races do. Guess, what, they do get on with their lives, yes, they know racism exists, but as long as they are successful, they don't care or wish to know anymore about racism. I believe you have an expression for these people, "Uncle Tom." This is a crude word, and it shouldn't exist should a black person or any other race want to be successful in their work. The difference between me and you is that, I liked Martin Luther King, Arthur Ashe, Sammy Davis Junior, Miles Davis etc etc, simply because they worked hard to get where they were in spite of the racism they faced(which is worse than today), it pushed them to work hard to be successful. If only a few from Compton would take a leaf out of their books, and stop blaming society for not having a chance in life because believe it or not, they do have that chance from birth i.e. going to Kindergarten etc, but then they choose to go another path simply because of peer pressure or street cred. I have the same opinion for those in England, the chav population (majority are white) who just drink, who are just anti-social and display typical yobbish behaviour.

Robert would have a point if all public schools in America were created equal.  They aren't even close.  Go compare the public schools in inner city Chicago to those in a suburb like Rolling Meadows.  My wife was a public school teacher before she became an RN.  She worked in some pretty poor schools that couldn't even afford construction paper and general supplies.

Perhaps they should do something about the 83% truancy rate from Kindergarten and 1st grade in California and then they are not able to read, which according to a report, leads to a dropout 4 times more than those who can read. Education begins at home, if there is no education at home, then what chance has the child have? Boyz in the hood was a great film, in that it shows just one kid who wants to get ahead in life, whilst his friends were just sitting around, playing dominoes, generally dossing around, and in the end, it is the one who gets on in life who gets the bullet. They have choices just like we all do; let others do their thing and do your own thing, go on your own way, even if it means dropping your friends because in the end, it will be you who is brought down to their level.

Your post is very feel-good and casts a warm, soft glow over the civilized British, well done. I'm glad you feel so good about your heritage and native country and that you can confidently look down your nose at the US - I wonder - have you even been to the US for anything more than a holiday.
I've lived in the UK and I've been to impoverished black communities there - one was Brixton in London although perhaps it's been gentrified in the years since I left.  I wonder why you feel the need to make yourself look good by boasting about how incredibly civilized and welcoming "we are" (to blacks who have been in the UK "for over 3-4 generations").

They aren't claiming an 83% truancy rate....  They are stating that 83% of children who are chronically absent in kindergarten and 1st grade are unable to read on-level by grade three.
 
It's definitely not the same as 83% of all kids are chronically absent in kindergarten.
