I was trying to go for the Muslim convert/Viking God style long beard, even if it took years.
But I just can't handle it.
My facial hair is extremely hard and spikey, I know some men have hair that's soft and grows easy but that's just not the case for me, it's like having a hedgehog strapped to my head 24 7.

I have a pretty big beard now. I'm going to Iceland next year and want to become a Viking warrior!
No seriously I've had a beard on and off for about 10 years, never been clean shaven, but never had a sculpted beard either. Just bushy. There's a photo in the photo thread somewhere.

Is there not something you can do about that? Surely there's some products, maybe conditioners, and some styling techniques you could use to train your beard to be softer. If people can do it for their head hair then surely they can for facial hair too.

I don't look anything like this now...
...and yes I did carve that shit out of the stump of a 130ft tree that I took down....with my bear hands.

C'mere, hon. That many exclamation points deserves something.
Seriously, I look at that pic and think, "golly, I'm turning into Whatevs, is a garden that far down the line?"
But if you love it, it's all good.

Funny you mention that. One reason I haven't grown a full beard in so long was the discomfort. But it feels a hell of a lot softer and less itchy so far -- matter of fact, the itchiest parts are the edges where I trim. The beard itself is laying down nicely and I'm thinking I'll keep it for a while. No Viking-fro, though.

I use my hair conditioner on my beard a few times a week. As my hair gets longer on my head, I'll soon be shifting to Mane-and-Tail for the topside, which isn't so great on beards, so I might have to act like a gal and have a couple of different conditioners in my shower.
Oh, the horrors!

I shaved mine off for exactly that reason. My hair's still mainly black, but my beard makes me look like a grandfather.
Not that you look that way. Blond or lighter hair is more forgiving than the contrast between black and grey.

I was considering this, I tried a facial wash moisturiser thing.
I've been checking out beard softener on Google.
If there is something out there that works I'd 100% give it another go.
At the moment though I'm just thinking my beard genetics are fucked, I've been dealt with iron bristled facial hair and that's how it is.
