I think about participating into this discussion of trinity... if the subject did not vanish already.
Anyway, it should start with this question: how do you define the word "god"?
Moi? A mythological construct of primitive minds used to explain the unknown and ultimately, to allay the fear of death.

I thought I was clear enough... I didn't ask the question "what is a god?" but "how do you define the word "god"" (as a concept, not whether such a thing exists or not).
What, did I not define god good enough for you?

I think it's a separate issue from the idea of the Trinity. Christians seem to think that they copyrighted the word "God", and the term MUST refer to the Trinitarian concept, just as Muslims seem to think they own the idea of monotheism, and any non-Trinitarians must be Muslims. The idea of the Trinity is one god in three separate persons. The debate on this topic is over WTF does that even mean? If the board will indulge me repeating my earlier point, I want to make it more clear with references to scripture. Quote:Luke 23:46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. So apparently those persons who are part of "one god being" don't share the same spirit. Quote:Matthew 26:39 And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. So apparently those persons who are part of "one god being" don't share the same will or make the same plans. Quote:Matthew 24:36 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, neither the son, but my Father only. So apparently those persons who are part of "one god being" don't share the same information or have the same knowledge. Quote:Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? So apparently, those persons who are part of "one god being" can feel abandoned by or cut off from one another. Quote:John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. So apparently members of this "one god being" can act as intercessors for one another. A sentiment echoed in Paul's letters: Quote:Romans 8:34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. So the separate persons are also in separate locations and can intercede for each other. I can cite chapter and verse all day but suffice to say if you read the earliest (synoptic) Gospels in isolation of John, the clear message is that Jesus is separate from and subordinate to God. Even the Gospel of John has a mixed message on this point. Quote:John 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. Through critical reading of scripture and skeptical inquiry into the history of Christianity, I can only conclude the entire nonsensical Trinity is a ret-con designed to square the new hybrid religion with strict Jewish monotheism and yet also allow Jesus the divine status that he required to forgive sins and act as an intercessor for humanity. It is a doctrine that neither makes logical sense nor does it have consistent support from scripture. (Edit: fixed grammar)
Atheist Forums Hall of Shame:
"The trinity can be equated to having your cake and eating it too." ... -Lucent, trying to defend the Trinity concept "(Yahweh's) actions are good because (Yahweh) is the ultimate standard of goodness. That’s not begging the question" ... -Statler Waldorf, Christian apologist
Yeah, that about pins the tail on the gilded donkey: It's an asinine idea that makes zero sense if it is not recognized as a holdover from polytheism. I love it, the notion that Christianity is infected with what it most loathes.
