"Great spirits have often encountered violent opposition from weak minds."
Einstein

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down happy. They told me I didn't understand the assignment. I told them they didn't understand life.

RE: Miss Evolution
Evolution was purposely left out of my biology curriculum in high school (Florida). they waited to teach it until the end of the year, and, unfortunately, they did not have enough time to teach it.

RE: Miss Evolution
Florida is a pretty fucked up state for teaching evolution. Maybe not as bad as Texas, but bad.

This just isn't an issue in Ireland, or probably in Europe at all, I'm staggered.

The funny thing about my learning of evolution is that, in high school, I heard more about evolution in my church than in Bio class. *palmface*

Oh, not at all. Europe got over religion by and large about the time the U.S. was sticking its head up Jesus' bunghole. The pope may still throw a good block party, but evolution is accepted mostly everywhere there. I've never run into fucks as ignorant as American bible thumpers. That said, I haven't met any radical Muslims. The lot of them should all gather on the moon and go at it so the rest of us can get on with living a real life.

As a matter of fact, I also learned about the 2nd law of thermodynamics in church too. back then, the church's logic and rhetoric got me. now i look back and I am depressed about how sincere and delusional they were. especially their tactics at abortion clinics. the youth group went to an abortion clinic to protest.. I never did ask them if it was okay for an 8 yo to get an abortion if her life was in jeopardy.. or what the punishment would be if she got one. I wish i can get their reaction.

My own grade school (a Missourah Synod Lutheran school which, fortunately just closed down) refused to talk about evolution, even going so far as to redact sections of the texts that talked about it. I had to teach it to myself. Unfortunately, their refusal to mention a vital component of biology was the least of my problems with the school.

Oh, and Ms. Illinois does support the teaching of evolution. No surprise there.

That is terrible. To me, biology without evolution is like math without the plus and minus signs.

RE: Miss Evolution
In 2009 on the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the publication of On The Origin Of Species, a national poll conducted showed that only half of the adult population of the United Kingdom actually believed in Evolution. So we should be very careful about appearing sanctimonious towards our American cousins across the water. And I am just as guilty as anyone else on this. Nevertheless. Nobody anywhere on the planet should be doubting the validity of Darwin's theory. Especially in the most advanced nation on Earth. Every high school student should be made to read it before they graduate. And that includes our lot over here as well. Also every disbelieving adult too. End of.
