What Are These Alleged Xtian Values?

What Are These Alleged Xtian Values?
Let's see what Richard Carrier has to say:

Quote:Because the history of Christian fascism throughout the world had by then reached such a fevered pitch of pervasive, Naziesque horror that the Founding Fathers wanted to defang Christian power entirely, so Christians could never again use the power of the state to oppress, murder, or maim. The Constitution was written specifically to stop Christian sectarian war and Christian political oppression. To claim that Christianity was responsible for the Constitution is thus a perversion of the actual order of things. Nothing in the Constitution derives from the Bible or Christian religion. Christianity inspired the Constitution in only one terrible sense: by being so horrific something had to be done to stop it. Not by abolishing it, of course. But by taking away its power, and giving people the liberty to follow any sect or religion, or none, without fear or interference. For the first time in history, since its greedy acquisition of the fascist apparatus of the Roman state nearly fifteen hundred years before, Christendom had to compete on a level playing field, and could no longer threaten people with force to get its way or compel their allegiance.

This is the historical context in which the founding of the United States (and all subsequent democratic revolutions) must be understood.

So of course they had to whittle it away, and claim the best parts are because of the bible, until now when we have people claiming this is a christian nation, and half the country thinks you can't be moral if you're not christian.
Poe's Law: "Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is impossible to create a parody of Fundamentalism that SOMEONE won't mistake for the real thing."

Good video to watch, if you want to know how common the Jesus story really is.

And this is how we end up with lying, pandering hacks like David Barton being taken seriously by a large number of people eager to have their views validated by a supposed authority. Barton is to serious history what William Lane Craig is to philosophy and the Discovery Institute is to science. You can’t read one of their articles without gagging on the stench of desperate dishonesty.

But no one with any sense ever thought that peddling horseshit to idiots wasn’t a lucrative gig.

The Treaty of Tripoli, Article 11:

Quote:Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen (Muslims); and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan (Mohammedan) nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_...Article_11

The above should excise any notion that the United States is a "Christian nation".  Note that the Treaty was ratified with unanimous consent of the United States Senate.
