Personal files like PM's and identifying data like email and ISP from users who didn't want to migrate could have been scrubbed or he could have given us the shell without certain data like admin logs. If he wanted to help us, he'd have explored his options or have communicated his objections to us so we could have had the chance to address them to his comfort level and to honor and respect users who didn't want to migrate.

While I don't know the content of the communication between these users and Seth, I cannot accept that a few people -whose concerns could have been addressed to everyone's satisfaction- were wholly responsible for the wanton destruction of our community.

Seth behaved like a insensitive, selfish piece of shit and he and he alone should own that.

More than anything else, I just wish he'd given at least a 30 day notice so I could have had the time to save more of the things that were important to me, to my own personal computer. That would have been the decent thing to do. I did some of my best work there, I think.

As for communications to/from him, I tried to use the feature there to either PM and/or email him. It bounced back as undeliverable. Which, frankly was not at all surprising. The chickenshit weinee had already made up his mind and gone into hiding as far as I could tell.
Where are we going and why am I in this hand basket?

He didn't view us as worthy of his time or concern.

There's that scene at the end of "Ghost" where the black shadows grab the bad guy and drag him into the ground. That's what seems to have happened to that forum.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

I would have preferred something that dramatic over the soundless whimper it ended in, many hours earlier than promised.  We deserved better.

Maybe they don't. I mean, am I one of the ones not making it any easier? I truly do not know.

edit: don't take my questions too seriously or anything. TRANSLATION: What the fuck are you talking about, mh?

I'm wondering if he means me and others moaning about Seth Andrews.

Thoreauvian: why do you call yourself "Thoreauvian"? Do you like the idea of civil disobedience? Or perhaps not. Maybe you like "nature" or some other shit. My question is: Why did you choose your username?

The more elaborate your answer, the better. And just so you recognize that I'm not being a dick, and that I actually want to know you better, I'll let you know that I consider myself a Thoreauvian. (For "reasons," mainly related to civil disobedience, but also stuff discussed in Walden.)

I read Walden when I was a teenager, and it altered the course of my life.  It changed my choice of a profession, my relationships, and my interests -- for better or for worse. Thoreau's influence has been perhaps the most consistent feature of my thinking ever since.

My avatar is a picture I took at Walden Pond. The colors in the background are the pond itself.

I am still a lifelong private student in the Thoreauvian mold, although I have modified Thoreau's assumptions as I have learned on my own.  I have kept a journal on and off for most of my life.  I am deeply concerned about how climate change is altering the face of the natural world. And I am a member of the Thoreau Society as well, although I sometimes consider them Thoreau trivia collectors.

I was never as attracted to civil disobedience and activism as I was to the ideas presented in Walden, most likely because I'm an introvert.

In what ways do you consider yourself a Thoreauvian?

Do you like IPAs? The only reason I bring it up is that I think "bitterness" can be appreciated (in certain conditions).

I appreciate that form of bitterness but I (and I suspect many other ex-TTAers) am savoring the bitterness of recent events.  Seth Andrews betrayed everything he has ever said about building community and showed nothing but contempt for those of us that made that forum our home.  It was callous and cowardly and he showed himself to be nothing but a hypocrite.

I appreciate the welcome we've had here at AF but it is hard to be the newbie and there are a lot of, shall we say, "unique" personalities here to get used to.  We had the same at tptsnbm and they tend to be the ones that make things the most fun and interesting so I don't mean that negatively at all... it's just a lot to take in at once, especially for those of us that tend to be a bit more introverted.

You may be aware that we are trying to resuscitate the old forum in a new guise and while it may never be exactly the same it is beginning to have much of the same feel.  Andrews may have only contempt for the community but the community largely wants to stay together and that is worth something.  The only good thing about what happened is that it made us all recognize what we had.

That said, I expect to keep coming here even it is mostly lurking for a while and throwing in a smartass comment now and then from left field.  It is just going to take time for the bitterness to recede and get balled up into a little corner where I can just take it out to play from time to time.  Not that I'm resentful or anything.

We ride at dawn.
