I hope Irwin's zoo is not a disappointment.  I always enjoyed him and the show.

Not at all. I went to Brisbane last year, and we went to Irwin's zoo, I loved it. I got to hold a Koala and have my picture taken with it. The tiger enclosure is amazing. And the bird/crock show in the stadium was fun. I know my friend John will love it too. And the view of Glass House Mountains, just south of the zoo is amazing.

I love downtown Brisbane. It can be super hot during the summer, but if you are on the water tour, Sea Cats, speed boats, they are so fast when you are standing outside it still feels like you are in a walk in freezer. And the water taxis to the outer islands in Redland Bay give you an awesome view.

I hate flying too, as with long drives. I like being at new places, I simply hate long trips to get to them.
I'm glad to hear that the Irwin zoo is a cool place.  And it sounds like you figured out the water travel thing though a boat would take a damn long time to get from there to NC.

I love a road trip...especially if I can go alone.  I loved to fly till after 9/11 and all the TSA changes.  Now flying is just a pain in the ass.  I actually prefer a road trip so it's okay with me.

I love just getting in the car (or on the bike) and just hitting the road. No one else with you. Crank the sounds up so you can't hear the road noises/screams/sirens, and just cruise in your own world on a long road trip.

Speaking of boat rides to North Carolina. Some of the big container ships have spare cabins for passengers, at a lower rate than a cruise liner. They go more places and "time is money" so they don't dawdle.

Australia In B Flat, By Brian 37 (AKA Brian James Rational Poet on FB and @Brian37 on twitter)

In pitch black of night
3-D silhouette
The mangrove trees
Took me on a ride

I left Russel island
Proceeded westward inland
Next destination Chinchilla
To which I'd never been

They say the camera
Makes everything look bigger
Mad Max's Muscle car
Could never be truer

Long straight highways
Go on forever
Mesmerize
Driver fatigue will make you die

From Chinchilla
Onto Toowoomba
Then to Blackwater
Nothing more flatter

The occasional bump
Rolling hill or mountain
Were as sparse
As brown snake anti venom

But our trek
Northward
Took us to
A tropical island

Keppel colada
Spotting Echidnas
Rupert Holmes
Truly gave us

A reason
To traverse
 Rural roads
Endless, flat, flat, fat

But what a fiat
What a reward
To end up in Yeppoon
And Keppel Island

Kookaburras
Glass bottom boats
Tropical drinks
Kept me afloat

Through the mundane
Flat, flat flat,
This is Australia
In B flat.

RE: G'day Mate......
Hillbilly Atheist and I went to Irwin's zoo yesterday. Just as fantastic as when I went last year. We got better seats for the bird/crock show at the stadium. Funny thing, the crocks look smaller underwater, and really huge when they come on land. We got to see a crock feeding too, separate from the stadium show. They have pens with fences around them, but you can get really close unlike the stadium. Being that close makes your really realize how dangerous those things are. The trained birds fly right over you. We were sitting near the trainer and the birds landed seats away from us. HB having partial blindness, it was great that we were sitting that close.

HB got to see a tiger up close because it walked by the glass enclosure. I went to the bathroom so I missed it. But I was really happy for him that it walked that close to him. But for me the cute animals always bring me to tears. The koalas and kangaroos we got to pet. I love the meerkats. We had a fantastic day.
