Hello all
August 6, 2019 at 11:57 am
Hi, My name is Carl I go by Bmanne and I'm new to this forum.
I feel like giving up my beliefs but find it hard to let go completely. I know there are many people who feel this way.
I live ,as many do, in a place with christain beliefs, and you are looked down on for not going to church, events, etc.
How did many of you take that big jump to let go completely?
It feels good to find a place to talk freely and not be judged.
Thanks,
B

From Portugal. Over here religion exists, but not very fundamentalist. My parents said nothing when I stopped going to church, etc.
As to the letting go, there is no silver bullet to become an atheist. It just happens over time for those brought on religious upbringing.
Personally, I kept observing reality and the fact that there is no magic. In electricians terms, I grounded myself .

Did you bring the tacos, Bmanne? Rookies normally supply copious amounts of tacos to smooth over the elders.

A life without tacos is a life full of pain.
A life of sorrow, strife, and strain.
Tacos bring joy, and delight.
Tacos set your heart alight.
Tacos steal the stage, the sole spotlight.
Tacos can never be wrong, they're always all right.
To never try tacos, to remain abstain,
To deny oneself is truly quite insane.

Welcome Woof.
I got out at age 13, so of course, my biggest fight was with my parents. They had to deal with the religious community fall out, I didn't really care.
I'm in an approx 98% christian community and for the most part an open atheist. The judgement by christians never stops. Just grow a thick skin and don't be afraid to offend them when they're out of line. I'm confident they have no problem offending you.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

Hmm.
Nay_Sayer: “Nothing is impossible if you dream big enough, or in this case, nothing is impossible if you use a barrel of KY Jelly and a miniature horse.”
Wiser words were never spoken.
