What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

He could probably kick a football into orbit after that kind of exercise.

You can get a modest restaurant meal in Guadalajara for about half a dollar.

That's pretty cool! Now, if I only lived several hundred miles closer! Off topic, have you heard from Mark ("Whateverist"), lately? It's been months since I've seen him post.  Huh And yes, I know that he doesn't post here.

Douglas Bader (referenced in the Funny Memes thread) joined the RAF at the age of 18 in 1928 and was commissioned two years later. Just a year later, he lost both legs after crashing his plane while performing low-altitude acrobatics. After recovering, he was fitted with artificial legs which enabled his to drive, fly a plane, and play golf. He successfully repeated his pilot training and passed all his checks and tests, but was cashiered as an invalid anyway.

When WWII broke out, the RAF accepted him as a pilot. He flew for just one year (1940-1941) before being captured after bailing out over occupied France. In that one year, Bader was credited 22 victories, four shared victories, six probables, one shared probable, and eleven enemy aircraft damaged.

Legless badass.

"Legless badass".

That's one of my nicknames.

Though I suspect for different reasons.
