What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?
RE: Alan Turing was sentenced to prison for being "Gay".

You make no commentary and ask no questions.

Edit: Command decision made to move this since Winter fled and didn't give a reason not to move it.

My original post was posted under the "history" section + it was marked with the "serious" tag.
The goal of posting it is quite obvious since it's a "historical topic" under the "history" sub forum Hehe

No, it was a random piece of information with nothing to lead to a discussion.

Homosexuality was a crime in "Britain" and there was law banning it under ""gross indecency" under Section 11 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act 1885".

He then took his own life with Cyanide:

Quote:On 8 June 1954, Turing's housekeeper found him dead at the age of 41; he had died the previous day. Cyanide poisoning was established as the cause of death.

Actually, Turing wasn’t sentenced to prison. He was given the choice between incarceration and chemical castration, choosing the later. Also, his death from cyanide poisoning was likely accidental.

It's explained that Turing opted for hormone theory and probation Vs prison. Says so right in the link provided.

And it turned out that one of the side effects that made him kill himself: he grew breasts.

And for whatever reason, the makers of The Imitation Game really dropped the ball when they covered Turing's "treatment.":

They portray some tremors, but, somehow, Morten Tyldum dropped the ball. It would have been such a perfect visual rendering of how fucked the homophobic systems of Britain was at the time: seeking to cure him of these "unnatural" feelings, they made him into something very unnatural. Imagine if Kiera Knightley opened the door to meet Benedict Cumberbatch, and, before either of them get to say a word, we get to see what it's done to him, and we can see a shock on her face and a strong sense that she's stifling an impulse to say "Oh, my God! You have bigger tits than I have!" I touched a bit on it when I reviewed it for Anglotopia, but I think Jonathan might have softened it a bit in the editing, since I'm not sure I said he developed "a more feminine body." I suppose it might be a bit of a step up from when I saw the movie in theaters with Dad and the first things I said when he asked me what I thought were "Not Enough Bitch Tits."

And another thing I just discovered: apparently, the prosecutor actually thought Turing growing bitch tits would somehow help him grasp his mistake! I don't get it, either.

He posts a lot of nice pictures on FB.  Nearly every day.

I'll have to "friend" him on FB. I have to keep a low profile about my atheism, though.

But you are a messed up person for removing a historical topic written in the historical section.
You're identical to the religious extremists you claim fighting.

But it's not really an historical 'topic', is it? The way you posted it, it comes off more as history-related trivia. It fits better in this thread than the other one.
