Happy Birthday Cecelia!

And no, I'm not 'really really old'.

As much as my mother and I had our differences growing up, the one thing she did every year, was to bake me  birthday cake, she put every effort into those cakes. One year I told her I was into antique iron key typewriters, like you would see on old black and white detective/reporter movies, where the reporter was trying to get the scoop. Damned if she did not hand make cake where it had Hersey's kisses as keys, and a chocolate rolling pin. She one year did a spitting image of my short attempt to create my own cartoon character, as a kid, "Quackey Duck". Of course I never became a famous cartoonist, but it shocked me how much detail she put into that birthday cake to make it look like my amateur drawings. Of course I did not had the talent, back then, or now. But as much as we butted heads at the time, looking back at it now, she really was making an effort to let me know she cared about me.

Point is enjoy it. There is so much I never understood about my mother. But looking back at it now, there is an instinct in our species that always allows the prospect of connection and bonding.

Good post, if your aim was to make Cecelia's 'happy birthday' thread all about you.

Holy crap, really?

Since when is expressing empathy and connection a crime? I was simply expressing my empathy. I think it was pretty neat.

It was all about you and your mum.
