Are we not living in the modern era anymore?
April 17, 2022 at 12:43 pm
Hi, I remember from somewhere I heard that were not in the modern era anymore and that it ended in 1989 when the human genome project was cracked or complete. Apparently the human genome project was started in the 1950s but I am not sure. I have also heard that people call the age we are living in now the age of information Wich started as far back as 1990, on the year of the new millennium or 21rst century(2000) or a little later. If we are not in the modern era anymore, what era are we living in? what is the new era called?
I did ask this on the history forum but my thread was closed becuase they said something about not being allowed to post about 2000's or later. I don't understand why asking that was breaking any rules on that forum since it's history anyway so I would think it would be exeptable to ask that there. I wanted go straight to the horses mouth with this question to receive a faster answer rather then trying to sift threw the BS and false untrustworthy information all over the nets to find out thew truth. Becuase of that I thought that I would ask here instaid if anyone knows

Some people in the scientific community have proposed that we are now living in what is termed the "Anthropocene Era." Wikipedia has a full article on the subject:

The Human Genome Project was completed in 1989? I had to check this out and it turned out it was formally started in 1990, and depending on how you define completion, it was completed anywhere between April 2003 and this very month. And this is literally the first time I've heard anyone tie the end of the modern age to the HGP at all.

Why does any of this matter? You're living the the age that you live in, this era, make the best of it that you can. It's has little to do with genome this or internet that.
I'd rather live in the late 60's, 70's or 80's when I was young and things were simpler. My predecessors (now dead parents) would choose the late 40's, 50's and early 60's. Guess what my grandparents would choose. It included out houses.

Isn’t the word “modern” synonymous with the word “contemporary”? If that’s the case, then we are always in the modern era, and we would need to come up with a historical name for the era that ended at the turn of the millennium.

I prefer the current times for the advanced medical tech, in particular.

I heard we were now in post- postmodern, but I think of it as just now...or the 1970's, cause it kinda feels like that to me, inflation, me-first, etc.
