What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?

No I don't!!

It would only be an error if you didn’t mean to slash there.

Some bits are supposed to leak once you've finished.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

The 3Ware 9650se sata raid controller isn't a good HBA. The Xeon E3-1230 V2 has hyperthreading while the E3-1220 V2 doesn't. Okay. I know. Nobody cares.

Consoling

It's not that I don't care, it's that I have no fucking clue what you are talking about.

I haven't seen enough real-world programs to convince me that hyperthreading is worth it. After all, on modern processors, how deep is the pipeline? Ten, fifteen stages? What's the benefit with having two threads on the same core?? If one stalls, the other can continue? Is not 12 physical cores enough???

These processors only have 4 cores. Six threads/cores is considered the place to start these days. Since these are for a file server, the extra threads will likely be a benefit. Anyway, the Xeons without hyper threading are $10-15, and the ones with hyper threading are only $10 more. At that price it's a no-brainer.

Wow, didn't know that! My 24-year old son just bought a new rig from CyberPower PC that cost $5,300 with its Intel Core i9-12900KS costing around $750. I knew that some microcontrollers are going for $0.10, but a hyperthreaded processor for $20?!! Incredible! I am feeling SO old, remembering my first 128-baud modem from the early 80s.
