What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?
RE: What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?
Joaquin Phoenix will be Napoleon in the upcoming Sony/Apple biopic.

Admittedly Joaquin Phoenix looks slightly less unlike Napoleon than the typical caricatures of Napoleon in English language films.    But still, Napoleon was famously baby faced, and was in his late 20s and 30s when he won all of his major battlefield victories.      Why does Joaquin Phoenix look every brooding minute of his grizzled 48 years as he played Napoleon at Austerlitz?    He looked more like Napoleon when he depicted the Patricidal Roman Emperor Commodus in the Russel Crow flick Gladiator 23 years ago.

Think Marlon Brando’s depiction in 1954 film  Desiree still looked the most like the real Napoleon of any mainstream English language film depiction

Akira Kurosawa's 1961 masterpiece Yojimbo, which inspired the films A Fistful of Dollars (1964) and Last Man Standing (1996) was itself inspired by two Dashiell Hammett novels: 'Red Harvest' (1929) and 'The Glass Key' (1931).

A little factoid that I learned from Matt Orchard's newest video. As obviously sharp as tiger's teeth are, even their tongue is coarse enough to remove skin.

Napoleon, at 5 foot 6 inches, would look like a basketball player next to Danny DeVito’s 4 foot 10 inches.

I can empathize.

Maybe cloning is the solution. That way, we could lab-grow actors who look exactly the way you think they should.

I think some degree of visual authenticity shows the movie maker cares about accurate depiction of actual people and events to help viewer experience and interpret, not purely jus to hoist his own interpretation on the viewer.

The classic skit about how Michelangelo created this extravagant and bizarre painting of the Last Supper that the Pope refused to sign off on?

That actually happened. Just not to Michelangelo, but Paolo Veronese. He got called up before the Inquisition, but it turned out that all he needed to do was change the subject matter from the Last Supper to the incident where Jesus dined with the tax collectors and sinners.
