Names of places in Croatia
RE: Names of places in Croatia
Hey, I've got an idea. Let's continue this discussion on Stacksocial, where you aren't under the thumb of an onerous administrator. We'll see you there!

I think people in the Jezikoslovlje section on forum.hr are even less qualified to talk about this than an average person is. An average person doesn't know how science works and realizes that they don't know that. People on forum.hr are laymen who read a lot of tertiary sources such as etymological dictionaries, and tertionary sources almost never discuss stuff such as p-values (the basics of modern scientific method). Yet they are convinced they understand how science works. An average person realizes they don't know how science works, people on forum.hr have their heads filled with a precise but wrong answer.

That’s a fair point: you yourself are an average [that’s me being generous] person who doesn’t know how science works. Trouble is, you don’t realize this about yourself.

What makes you think I misunderstand how science works? I can see how we can know that Hekatonhir, one of the most active members of the Jezikoslovlje section of forum.hr, hopelessly misunderstands science, because he says stuff like "Ma odjebi više s tim svojim p-vrijednostima, marš na Alternativu." ("Alternativa" being the subforum of forum.hr intended for discussing stuff like Flat-Earthism). Like I've said, I can see how somebody who reads a lot of tertiary sources such as etymological dictionaries, but little or no scientific papers, might end up thinking that way (as tertiary sources mostly don't talk about p-values and other things essential for modern scientific method). And I think people who think like Hekatonhir are a lost case.

You thought dragons were real because of birds.

You thought airplanes weren't real because of your 'understanding' of the science of flight.

Yet you have the nerve to use as proof the name of some random forum member somewhere else.

Lets go with random forum dude is the uneducated one compared to you.

Fuck me runnin'...you really are a piece of work.

Dude...you went to what you claim was ONE prison on ONE day, found no one there, and concluded from that that prisons don't exist. How is that scientific?

I thought you were referring to something about my paper about the k-r pattern in the Croatian river names.

Your refusal to even consider emendations to your paper is also non-scientific. Six of one...

I think it is obvious who is really being more scientific: is it me or is it the proponents of the mainstream interpretation of the names of places in Croatia. Proponents of the mainstream interpretation of the names of places in Croatia claim that that k-r pattern in the Croatian river names is a coincidence without even attempting to calculate the p-value. I have made an experiment which suggests that the p-value is somewhere between 1/300 and 1/17. Even if my experiment is flawed, I am still being more scientific than the proponents of the mainstream interpretation of the Croatian names of places.
